Default Blu-ray vs. DVD Screenshot comparison thread?

I searched for one but couldn't find any. Is there one? I'm trying to get 2 of my co-workers to see the difference.

Well instead why not download a HD trailer from somewhere like HERE and stick a few on a blank dvd and run them on a computer at work to show them off. DOnt forget you'd also need to install something like quicktime as well on it too..or just go for the windows Media player stuff from there..

Also just a side note what I've tended to do is take a few mates from work home, stick them on the sofa while I stick the PS 3 and projector on first with a DVD with upscaling turned off to show them what they've got at home, then with it turned on then finally I stick on a blu-ray and they're jaws just hit the floor. 4 shown so far.. and 4 guys now owning PS3's and buying blu-ray regularly.. I'm doing my bit...

That's what *WE* get to deal with - a sharp contrast between *ANY* upconverted/upscaled DVD vs a Blu-ray.

I certainly see a difference!

John,
I help you, How to trick on PS3.
Using Red and White for Analog A/V input cable, Sound Settings>
Skip color Blue, Green, Red component for Video.
Do not use on Video Settings. just HDMI cable
Be Careful,
your receicer setting is audio input for Analog.
And Surround Modes: Stereo

remember too that a major difference is in the size.... blu ray isn't just 'sharper' as these pictures indicate.... the picture is way way bigger and doesn't look worse as you get a bigger tv

maybe you should show them a 1920x1080 blu ray capture and compare that side by side with a 720x480 dvd screen cap.... then they can really understand what's going on

those dvd shots look like they are blu ray downconverted. why? because total black is in fact gray-ish on dvd. 8 bit color has 256 tonal gradations and dvds total black is defined at 16. blu ray has this "properly" set at 0. same goes for white. dvd caps at 235.
nevermind, those dvd shots had their levels stretched (different framing gives it away, slight color differences too), but thats cheating right

Also bare in mind that most HD camera's will still miss detail in the image that won't show up in these photo's as well as the fact that these are not at full resolution either. Yes some of those are really impressive but nothing compared to seeing them in the flesh and on the move.. just amazing.

If your on about the Cgi scenes in particular with it thats because generally when you introduce CGi elements into a film transfer the digital matt covers the entire screen and slightly washes it out, it's most obvious in slightly older early 2000's films that are CGI heavy.. King Kong being one of them. Having owned King Kong though on HD-DVD I'll say that despite all that in general the colour on it was fine.

The best comparison if you have a PS3 is go to the Sony store and download the trailers for Casino Royale (there is a SD and HD version) on a large screen the difference is stunning (they are both free).

Sure does. Esp in the last DUD vs DVD picture of Kong. DUD colour looks washed out compared to the DVD.
