I own thousands of DvDs that I have been collecting for years. Not one of them has a scratch and I am proud of my collection. After spending thousands on my collection Blu-Ray comes out. It will have the same movies just with a better picture. But how much better?
I watch a movie for the story not the picture quality. To me my DvDs are just fine. I also have alot of old horror movies that you cant even find on standard DvD anymore. I think I will stick with my old DvDs and not worry about Blu-Ray. My old movies are better then alot of the crap movies coming out today anyway. DvDCollector

It's not much better. People around here just like to waste money.
You're asking a bunch of Blu-ray fans if it's any better. Of course it is. It's a whole new experience. It's BETTER than going to your local theater.

Well if you like movie that much you want them to look as close as the original master. DVD is far away from that, killing the grain and detail, weaker colorspace and a LOT more Edge Enhancement and Compression Artifact..

Although I have managed to curtail my blu-ray obsession, I still have bought 67 movies in 6 months. I have a fever, and the only thing that can cure it is more blu-ray...or more cowbell :D |

As much as I love all of you on this Forum i do not understand why you all entertain posts like this from people. Most of us have been here long enough to be able to tell someone seriously asking a question ans someone just trying to antagonize us all.
AND YES BLU RAY IS BETTER! |

It doesn't sound like you will be swayed by anyone's argument here so, rent some Blu-Rays and find out! Find a friend who has a BD player or PS3 and a 1080p tv. Pick the movies that are your favorites and see if there is a BD release and check it out for yourself. Granted, some Blu-Ray releases are better than others, so your argument is sound for some releases. I suggest you search the threads here to see which BD's are recommended for PQ and check them out. That's all I can say.

Well the great thing about Blu-ray is that the players will also play your current DVD collection. So I recommend buying a player and renting a few movies to start off and judge for yourself. If you don't see what all the fuss is about the take the player back. I'm betting you won't. Good luck to you!

Maybe later I'm at work haha. I have far too many to list from memory, probably 400 or so. I have to do a census to see which one's are in condition enough to sell. They should be just fine I take good care of my electronics.

As an answer though if you dont care about picture quality stick with your DvDs then, perhaps pick up some old VHS tapes too for the really obscure films that arent even on DvD yet. If you enjoy great video quality and amazing sound then pick up a Blu Ray and welcome to a whole new world. Also with the larger storage space we'll probably get more extras and behind the scenes features if you're into those kind of things. |

Well im only going to get movies that I think were the greatest on Blu-ray. but then again i said that about DVD. dont kid yourself -- we all will have thousands of Blu-rays just like we have thousands of DVD's in our collections.

I actually hear that there is technology from Toshiba and Microsoft with this awesome software that has some great interactivity options. It may not have the technological capabilities of blu-ray, but it is cheaper, and it will do a really good job upconverting your current DVD collection.
Live life to the BLUest.

If youre happy with DVD then good for you. I sold my dvd collection when i upgraded to blu-ray, now waiting to replace my kid's dvds. Then again my collection was relatively small so it wasnt hard to get rid of, im sure if i had 1000+ it would of been a tougher choice.

Blu-ray has 5-6 times the resolution of DVD and a much expanded color space. I also features lossless (5.1 or 7.1) sound which is not possible with the DVD format.
But like Bluray_ne1 says, let your own eyes and ears be your guide. Give it a fair try. All of us did. It is a thrill to see a new movie with the quality that Blu-ray provides. It makes the home experience as good as the theater to me!
