Default Blu-ray on 720p?

If you have a 720p (1080i, etc.) TV will you be able to watch videos in 1080p output (Blu-ray)?
I'm looking to purchase and have no room for over 37" and read that for that size and closeness of viewing, 720p is almost as good. I just don't want to be unable to view Blu-ray videos.

No, your TV will down convert the 1080p source to 720p/1080i. You probably won't notice a difference unless you have a set over 50".

I totally agree with Schultzy, human eyes are not that sharp, 720p is more than enough under 50''

Well if you run a game or video in 720p on a 1920x1200 monitor you can definitely tell the difference of reduced quality. It all depends on how close you sit.

This all depends on the person. I noticed a difference between a 720p Panny plasma and a 1080p Sony LCD at 7ft. Supposedly, I am not supposed to be able to tell the difference. Whatever...
I think this might be a phrase used by people to justify a 720 purchase over a 1080.

Agreed!

When my friend shopped for his 42 Panny Plazma - we compared the 720p and 1080p models side by side. The differences are visible - but minimal.

Blu-ray on 720p is totally awesome - I cannot watch DVD (even upconverted) any more. I have a 720p TV and am so glad I don't have to put up with DVD quality anymore.

Well you're comparing LCD to plasma. Did you try comparing LCD to LCD or plasma to plasma? The differences would be less obvious that way.
