Mummy 3 Will Look and Sound Better on Blu-ray
Posted August 7, 2008 07:58 AM by Josh Dreuth

In an interview with Home Media Magazine, Rob Cohen, director of 'The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor', is telling fans that the film will look and sound better on Blu-ray than in the theaters. He is confident about this because of his use of a digital-intermediate print during post production, where he tweaked the film print in order to ensure perfect quality.

Cohen commented, "Things that are dimensional, like the dragon lunging at the camera, in Blu-ray really knock your head off because you are seeing all the details we put in it that are even a little better defined. The dark/light values are better so you can be darker and still see all the detail. Plus you have many more layers of ancillary material, and much more information."

The director also is confident that "it will sound better on that Blu-ray than in any theater in America" due to the fact that he can master the sound for a home theater experience.

So excited about the Blu-ray format, Cohen is actively looking to bring his other films, such as 'Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story' and 'The Fast and the Furious' to Blu-ray soon.

This isn't the first time we have heard such claims from a director, and it surely won't be the last. Blu-ray allows filmmakers to give a controlled digital presentation in a home theater that is often superior to the presentations found at local theaters.

'The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor' is in theaters now.

Question - What will be special about next weeks Blu-ray release?

How about we wait until it comes out and then we can answer that?

Myself and others may want to know how it looks and sounds before the day it is released and not read a review after next Tuesday, else the reviews we see here before the street dates would be moot to have at all. This site would not do much good if all the reviews were after the release dates. Like you never read or heard a movie review b4 it is released in theaters or media?

It was a blind buy for me for $15.99 during Amazon's Black Friday through Cyber Monday sale. It will finish my Mummy Collection along with the original Scorpion King. I would at least expect really good PQ and AQ.

One of the worst movies I have ever seen.

I highly recommend AGAINST blind buys. You'll thank me later.

I hated the first two Mummies. This one was intriguing with Jet Li added to the cast. I managed to catch the first 30 minutes on a flight to Honolulu a couple of weeks ago and it was unwatchable, I switched over to The Dark Knight and watched that for the rest of the flight.

I know this may not mean much, but it was Roger Ebert's favorite of the 3 Mummy films.

I'll pick it up eventually, but the $25.99+ price tag is a bit too much.

This movie was horrible. Mario Bello just felt so wrong it was distracting. The fight scenes were atrocious as was the acting. I am a fan of the first one, but this one blows.

I highly recommend renting before you buy. The pq will probably be nice though.

Well I like Brandon Frasier, Jet Li and Michelle Yeoh.
I only wish Rachel Weisz had come back as Evelyn.
