Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within. It was the only movie I've ever fallen asleep watching in the theatre.

This movie was a raging assfest of suck, my god how did anyone involved in this movie at anytime think it was going to be good. The only video I actually stopped watching and made a special trip to return(after...of course disclosing the aforementioned festivus of ass of course)

I personally love Barry Lyndon, but I still remember after watching it for the first time and thinking I must be one out of 100 people that would like it. I bet most people haven't seen it but there isn't really any action and everything happens extremely slowly. Kind of like 2001, another Kubrick film.

Movies are definitely subjective, and that's a good thing if you ask me. What I can't stand is the people that tell you if you don't like No Country for Old Men, but enjoy The Rock (random choice), you're a simpleton. Flooding yourself with movies like No Country for Old Men, The Illusionist, etc doesn't make you smarter, it's just taste. If you want to be smart take up rocket science or medicine, don't obsess with movies.
I agree with most of what you say, although I'd never equate "entertainment value" with "not a slow movie". We all find our replay value in different places. I love Remains of the Day, Lawrence of Arabia, Eternal Sunshine, etc etc, and many others that have been mentioned here, and I can watch them over and over and over. I also love big budget action and spectacle, but that doesn't guarantee that they'll have staying power for repeat viewings over years and years for me. So I can't make the same equation some others do.

But I'd certainly never categorize films like No Country or Illusionist as the "smart" movies. That's subjective too. Having dated a girl that turned her nose up at ANYTHING that wasn't post-war European avant-garde or '70s American experimental. Believe me, you bring up No Country for Old Men with these people and you might as well be talking Transformers.

Ah well...

Thank you for this thread.

I can't believe no one mentioned Bicentennial Man, easily the worst thing Robin Williams has been apart of.

I also found Miami Vice and Momento extremely boring.

15 minutes of Pathfinder was all I could take. How a movie can be nonstop action and that dull at the same time is beyond me.
I know they were popular, but I didn't get those Pirates of the Caribbean sequels( I liked the first one). They just didn't hold my interest.
I also had a hard time with The Matrix Reloaded.

You're right. That first Star Trek film is an absolute snoozefest.

What Dreams May Come

That one made my nails itch. Can't believe I sat through that one twice in the theater.
