ANCIENT!

actually I've been liking the idea of LPs of late...kind of a weird natural progression maybe (like getting into organic foods). I suppose an old dog can show a new dog some tricks eh? sorry, I'll stop... like when you put your hand on the record. or when it slowly winds down...or goes tick, tick, tick

Seriously, though. Not to get too far derailed from the original conversation, but they are doing some incredible things with 180 and 200 gram vinyl these days. It's a good time to be an independently wealthy audiophile.

Ive never even heard a super audio cd before...and have contemplated buying one to hear it.

Im leaning torwards a phil collins sacd, but they can be pretty costly so i havent pulled the trigger.

Can anyone recommend a good Phil album thats sacd worthy?

A cheap way to get into SACDS for $6.99 each is

http://www.yourmusic.com

They used to have a lot more titles but now they have about 26 different SACDs left listed for that price. Type SACD into the album title search to get a list.

Here's a site about SACD on the PS3:

http://www.ps3sacd.com/

Here is a site that mods certain players for better SACD sound:

http://www.sacdmods.com/

Here is a site that reviews both SACDs and DVD-As:

http://www.highfidelityreview.com/index.asp

Here is a forum that discusses SACD:

http://www.audioasylum.com/forums/hirez/bbs.html

There are more sites I could list that sell SACDs but I'll hold off for now.

Tower.com accepts Google checkout which is like Paypal. It takes a few minutes to create an account.

If you are going to buy only one album, I would suggest Dark Side of the Moon.

I concur. If you like or love this album, the 5.1 mix will make you crap yourself.

There aren't any Phil SACD's released at the moment.

For Genesis, I'd recommend either Duke or Invisible Touch. I have found those two discs to be the most sonically pleasing.

In fact, there have just been two major Genesis SACD releases -- boxed sets:

1976-1982
http://store.acousticsounds.com/brow...Title_ID=37611

1983-1998
http://store.acousticsounds.com/brow...Title_ID=40181

Acoustic Sounds has so much Genesis stuff, it's probably just best to do a search on their page.

Actually, all the Genesis albums in those sets are available individually.

I bought both of the box sets, which is why I recommended Duke and Invisible Touch.

I don't think either of the box sets are worth spending the money on unless you're an absolute Genesis nut, I have sold both of mine on eBay for $149/each and will be ordering Invisible Touch and Duke separately.

Based on the work done on the sets within 1976-1982 I will definitely not be ordering the 1972-1975 set when it comes out on March 31st.

So, is it the quality of the content that makes them not worthwhile? Or was the mastering done poorly?
