Default Happy Feet Warner Blu-ray for March 27

Happy Feet
Warner
Street Date: 3/27/07
MSRP: $34.99
BD-25
Original Aspect Ratio - 2.40
Subtitles: English, Español, Français
Sound:
English: Dolby EX 5.1
Español: Dolby EX 5.1
Francais: Dolby EX 5.1

The HD DVD is a Combo DVD/HD DVD 30 with $39.99 MSRP, and additionally:

English: Dolby 5.1 MLP

Is MLP how Warner usually describes it's lossless TrueHD tracks, or is this how it's gonna name it to avoid confusion with TotalHD?

Specs subject to be confirmed

No! I meant it has all the soundtracks of the BD plus the 5.1 MLP.

Maybe I should edit my post to clarify

According to HighDefDigest, the HD-DVD version won't have TrueHD/MLP. It said that the Warner site said so.

Unfortunate for both formats though because I can definitely smell a double-dipping. BD25 only?

Default What the hell is up with Warner

OK, they are releasing Happyfeet in combo and BD:

http://dvd.themanroom.com/dvd-newsview.php?id=436

But the combo disk has lossless audio, and the BD disk doesn't?

WTF is up with that???

Same old same old from Warner.

The formats are equal. Just one is more equal than the other.

According to high def, it is Dolby Digital EX on both.

The $175 million-grossing blockbuster will see identical specs on both formats. Each features a 1080p/VC-1-encoded 2.40:1 widescreen transfer, and in a somewhat unusual configuration for Warner, Dolby Digital Surround EX tracks in English, French and Spanish. (According to the latest specs on the Warner retail/press website, there is no Dolby Digital-Plus nor Dolby TrueHD track on the HD DVD version.)

Here's the deal. Currently Warner's website lists the HD DVD as sporting "5.1 MLP" audio in addition to the EX track. In the past that has translated into Dolby TrueHD when the back cover art has appeared. So, for that news post, I followed that train of thought (though in hindsight should have included a disclaimer). There's still a chance the HD DVD will NOT include Dolby TrueHD, but we'll have to wait and see.

Of course, Warner could end all the confusion and include lossless audio on everything and be done with it!

"there is no Dolby Digital-Plus"

There must be. DD is DVD audio (484Mbps max) on HD DVD.

My bad. It's on Warner's press/retailer-only website.

Well, heck, they can continue releasing on both 'combo' and BD as long as they want and I won't complain about what audio they put on the BD, because I refuse to buy a dualdisk totalhd rubbish release, and I NEED The Matrix Trilogy. If that only sees release on a combo disk, as much as it would pain me to do so, I will have to pass on that purchase until and only until it is a BD-only release. And that goes for The Lord of the Rings as well. Oh, misery.

It's also on the CES Engadget HD DVD press releases, but links you back to the Man Room.
