Default Name that underrated movie.

I'm not sure if something like this has been done yet but if so, then mods, delete the thread.

Now, I was thinking, what movie do you think had a good critical reception, but didn't do a good job at the box office. For example, take Slither back in 2006. It may have been from the tiring horror comedy genre, but according to Rotten Tomatoes, it was rated favorably towards critics at an 85% "Certified Fresh" approval rate (it was even placed second in the top horror movies of 2006, heres the link anyway for proof), but it didn't even recover half of the movie's budget. Heres the Wiki link if you want more info on the movie. What movies do you really think deserve more than what the audiences thought of them?

Many great movies have done poorly at the box office.
Shut up and go watch The Wire.

I know, I just wanted to know which ones and why (poor advertising, low screen number, etc).

I'm not too sure if Grandma's Boy made it to theaters but I'll show more favoritism for Grandma's Boy over any other goof comedies.

The Water Horse: Legend of the Deep.

It has gotten mostly positive reviews from critics and from sites reviewing hi-def titles but just did so-so at the box-office (just $9 million on its opening weekend, $40 million in the US, $60 million elsewhere). It didn't seem to get promoted very well for it's box-office release and even less for it's release on DVD/blu-ray. I just don't get it. I've mentioned the movie to several of my friends that have kids and none of them knew anything about the movie.

IMO, this movie should have been another "E.T." -like success. It's a great movie and fun for the whole family. It's also a great hi-def release. The PQ/SQ are great and it also has a good number of extras. Most of the people here that have commented on it (the comments I've seen anyway) have also mentioned it being a great movie, having great PQ/SQ and some have also wondered why it didn't do as well as it should or why Sony didn't promote it more. Anyway, it's disppointing since the movie deserves more consideration and a lot more hype than it's getting.

Summary: Great family movie, great PQ/SQ and I'm baffled as to why it hasn't been promoted more.

I'm going to go old school here.

'Cleopatra' tanked at the box office, but made a ton of money via television reruns. At the time (1963), this had a huge budget and star powered cast (Elizabeth Taylor, Richard Burton, Martin Landau, et cetera).

Classic flop.

Citizen Kane. It failed to turn a profit at the box office, but now we all know why.

Yes, I know this thread is a year old, but it's better than starting a new one, right?

Definitely Manhunter is underrated. It is a classic. Way better than Red Dragon. The music in Manhunter is a reason I enjoy it so much. The acting and story are all great as well.

yep it did, i saw it twice, may actually have been the last movie i saw at the theatre.
+1 grandma's boy deserved more credit, but like most pot based comedies never did.

Sometimes we hear of people who are “very” honest, “mostly” honest, or even “a little” honest.
Should we even use modifiers with the word honest? I don’t believe so. There are no degrees of honesty. Either we are honest or we aren't.

Dark City did very poorly at the box office. Not even $15 mil in the US. Worldwide total barely passed the $27 mil budget.
