Black Rain

A twenty year old thriller from Paramount that truely shines. Picture wise near perfect and our friend Peter Bracke gives it a 4.5 stars. This is a must buy flick that will keep the wife happy. Big Michael Douglas fan. Anyways just goes to show that if a little attention is spent on the movie prior to the transfer to disc ,then all the older ones should be winners.

what i like the most of it and its true just face it HD-DVD

Black Rain" is presented in 2.35:1 widescreen with MPEG-2/1080p mastering. Comparing the "Black Rain" Blu-ray release to the HD-DVD release yields identical results. The MPEG-2 conversion stands up to the VC-1 compression of the competitive format

That was just a rough cut.
I'd purchase this title on Blu-ray and put my HD DVD in storage IF the following happened:
BD-50
AVC/VC-1 video encode with zero DNR/EE
DTS-HD Master Audio
Same features as before but with the Japanese exclusive extras ported over and given English subs for them.

All the above AND a trailer for 1492: Conquest of Paradise finally coming onto Blu-ray with BOTH cuts of the film via seamless branching and overly extensive extras, being the second disc being filled to the gills as a BD50. One can only wish, right?

Just received an email that the German Steelbook of Black Rain is in the mail. Estimated arrival of August 25th. Cost of $37.41 in American dollars.

This movie is awesome but sadly apparently OOP from what I've read, they'll probably re-release it sometime in the future luckily I got my copy a few months ago and devoured all of its Ridley-Scott-Japanese goodness

Man, I hated this movie when I saw it on HD-DVD earlier this year. Really surprised that this is a Ridley Scott film. I've generally liked his movies.

It arrived this morning of 8/23! It has the same features as the U.S. release, so I'll leave it in the shrink wrap for now.

6 days to arrive from Germany to U.S., not bad at all.

As long as the PQ is the same as the HD DVD (better would be a bonus but doubtfull since it's really good anyway) then i'll be happy.
