Thumbs up Richard Roper and Micheal Phillips review The Dark Knight

I watched Ebert and Roper and the Movies last night and Richard Roper and Micheal Phillips review The Dark Knight. They absolutly loved it, they said the Oscar talk surrounding Heath Ledger was not BS. I know that Richard Roper is not the first person to compare The Dark Knight to The Departed and Heat, but knowing Richard Ropers movie likes and dislikes a little more makes his endoersment of the Dark Knight seem more credible to me.

Two overwhelming see its!

Default Reports from "The Dark Knight" Premiere

Click here and here to read all about the New York-based premiere that was held Monday night for "The Dark Knight."

Quote:
"It's very good. Not Citizen Kane-meets-Star Wars-meets-The Godfather very good, but still very good. There are political themes, questions of techno-ethnics, a subtle exploration of nihilism, complex civic politics and a crowning moral dilemma right out of the Twilight Zone -- in short, things you don't see in a typical summer tentpole (though do find in a typical Chris Nolan movie). Bale and Ledger are both strong, even if the latter is given a lot more to do, taking full advantage in a performance that's equal parts Nicholson's Joker and Anthony Hopkins' Hannibal Lecter. (Despite the creepiness of his role, it's somehow less haunting to see Ledger in a posthumous performance while he's in full makeup than it would have been to see him without it.)

If Nolan could have eased his foot off the accelerator on the high-decibel action scenes -- some script surprises just don't get a chance to breathe because of this relentlesness -- he nonetheless compensates for it with graceful directorial flourishes and surprisingly seamless transitions between the movie's various styles and themes."

Enjoyed the read at both those links. Thanks! The last line in the first link made me chuckle....

The Dark Knight should devastate the country's work productivity when it opens on Friday, July 18. Businesses may as well close down and make it a national holiday.

The consensus from www.rottentomatoes.com : Dark, complex and unforgettable, The Dark Knight succeeds not just as an entertaining comic book film, but as a richly thrilling crime saga.
Most anticipated release: The Hidden Fortress

Default The Dark Knight is truly DARK

This is not your dad's Dark Knight. This film is hardcore, all out, balls to the wall DARK.

I just previewed this film and I am seriously having trouble coming up the right words to describe how I feel. TDK starts out on the slower side. There is a lot of story and dialogue inside the first half that must be digested in order to process the gut wrenching second half. My mind has yet to calculate what this film will mean for any subsequent Batman films save for the absolute certainty that from now on, all of the films will be just as compelling and gritty.

I had been thinking lately of the third Batman film and if Aaron Eckhart would be able to at the very least match the (hype?) perfomance of the late Ledger's Joker. As of now there is no doubt in my mind that he can pull it off. We all know Two Face will be the next big antagonist. But how deep and serious will Nolan take this new character?
[Show spoiler]I assure you that when you see him, (And you DO see him)
you will be convinced that the Batman franchise is in no danger of waning any time soon. The action scenes are solid as are the acting abilities of virtually everyone of the major characters.
[Show spoiler]The Mayor wears eye makeup for reasons that
still elude me. Maggie Gyllenhall is OUTSTANDING. The biggest surprise by far as I'm not her biggest fan, but she is far more natural and believable than KH ever was.

The tipping point of the film is the scene in
[Show spoiler]which the Joker is caught and interrogated by Batman
. From then on it is a no holds barred Miller-esque graphic novel with a pulse. The only thing that I did not see coming was
[Show spoiler]the death of a major character. The need for the new suit is explained very well although I personally hate the way it looks. And the Bat Pod is inventive, although a little too coincidental
.

There is much less comedy in this film ( I only remember laughing once) but the WOW effect is very much in place. Ledger's perfomance really starts to shine
[Show spoiler]in the last quarter of the movie. He will, without a doubt, be terribly missed. The psychotic nature of the Joker is captured without flaw in his performance although I preferred the Killing Joke origin to the film's less than dramatic Joker birth.

The film is rich in detail and will serve as the standard for all comic book adaptions made in the following years.

That's my time, guys. And remember: S Laughter is the best medicine!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!!!!!

I don't think Nolan is going to direct the 3rd movie. Hopefully his replace is just as good. I also thought that the Riddler was suppose to be in the 3rd one.

No, there's no plans for a third yet. It's all just fan speculation.

We asked him whether they had anything ready if Warner Bros. came to them Monday asking for a third movie in the series. "Honestly, we had nothing on paper. We didn't even have an idea when 'Batman Begins' came out for 'The Dark Knight' and we don't have an idea now," he admitted to us. "We're not even thinking about it. When this one comes out and is out there around the world, which we're expecting to be in the next month or so, then maybe after everyone takes a vacation, we'll start to think about if there's a reason to do another one."

Next time try digital. Our digital prints were built and uploaded on Monday with keys delivered today at 2pm. At 2:01 I was fully emersed in the film.

CAB: Sorry to hear. Don't worry though. It will be in theatres awhile. A very long while.

The negative reviews are starting to pour in. I disagree though. Its at 91% right now on RT 3 points ahead of HellboyII and 6 points lower than Wall E and 3 points above Kung Fu Panda. And Iron Man is at 93%.
