This is an easy day 1 purchase. The Academy of St. Martin-in-the-Fields at lossless quality should be a revelation. Total audio showcase material. Can't wait.

I want the DC and the TC. We know this can easily be done, Blade Runner for instance.

I believe this site had some news about it awhile ago.
"Warner Home Video has announced that they have extended their distribution contract with Oscar-winning film producer Saul Zaentz, and that they will begin releasing him films on HD in 2008. Specifically, February will see the release of both 'One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest' and 'Amadeus', both recipients of the an Oscar for Best Picture. Obviously, being this preemptive with the announcement results in no specs and no solid release date, but it is still good to hear that two of the best movies of all time will be receiving HD treatment early next year." Source: Home Media Magazine | Permalink; Blu-ray.com One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest is coming this Tuesday, so Amadeus might not be too far off. I will definitely be getting this one.

AMADEUS is my all time favorite movie (next to BACK TO THE FUTURE PART III and CLERKS) and I also am eagerly anticipating this film to be released on Blu-Ray. I really do hope that WB pulls out all the stops for this one since this'll be one of the few movies that I care about the audio track for.
As per theatrical vs directors, it's a bit of a tough call. I really enjoyed the directors cut since it does expand on the film, give different scenes new meaning and just deepens the film. But I do want there to be a seamless branching with it and the theatrical cut, just so that I can see and hear that one line of "I will RUIN...your incarnation." Because I lone that line and how it's delivered. It's the one thing taken out of the director's cut that I wish was still in there. |

I like the movie, it's funny and could benifit from the HD Audio track, but I personally wouldn't buy it, I'm sure it'll come out on BD in a couple years, but WB probably wants to try to get some more popular movies out first, so don't expect this movie to come out for a good 3-5 years.

Brilliant movie, cant wait. I prefer the Directors Cut but there does seem to be quite a few who prefer the theatrical - so please give us both in the one package!
And throw in an isolated score like the original USA theatrical DVD release, even though I have the double SACD soundtrack release. |

Iam not at all into the classical music thing, but for someone to say Amadeus is not a movie that will sell BD copies or no one really wants it! To me, they don't have a sence of cinematic appreciation. When this movie comes to BD, I will be in line to buy it day 1. Amadeus is made to be seen on BD. Another film of this calibur is Chariots of Fire. Another release day buy for me. Having both these titles in hi-def a/v justifies why we spend the money we do on home theater.

The theatrical cut for ALMOST FAMOUS won Best Original Screenplay, but that doesn't stop the fact that the UNTITLED cut is far better.
ALMOST FAMOUS. Another music driven film with different cuts that I'd love to see on Blu-Ray. If you actually compare the cuts, you'd see that the stuff Milos Forman put back in does make the film stronger in terms of character and narrative. Like in the theatrical cut when after Salieri says "I will RUIN...your incarnation", he then just sits back in his chair, and the film cuts to a completely separate storyline of Mozart and his father coming to visit and then the costume party followed by more teeth gnashing from Salieri. But in the directors, cut, it gets rid of the line, but in place actually shows Salieri screwing Mozart over, and how far Mozart has sunk (as well as showing us how he gets the champagne bottle), as well as changing the meaning of Mozart defending himself to Leopold. Plus, the whole sub-plot of Salieri humiliating Constanza makes their scene near the end of the film more charged. When she says "I'm afraid we have no servants to show you out" the line her payback to him, rather than just her mocking his power and influence. Also, the added moments of Salieri praying to God to show him the tiniest bit of love really shows how much Salieri tortures himself over his perceived failure as a composer and believer. The reason it's called AMADEUS and not MOZART: THE MOVIE is because Amadeus is Latin for "loved by God". And these moments of Salieri trying to feel the smallest bit of God's love is what the movie is really about. Man's relationship with God. Sorry for the little lecture there. I do want both cuts of the film on the BD, just so that I can see and hear the "I will RUIN...your incarnation." line since it's one of the best lines ever spoken in film, IMHO. |

I am looking forward to this release, but I have a feeling it has been given a "dual format" encode.....This was supposed to be released before when Warner was not exclusive so I hope people are prepared for it.....BTW Wicky posted this back in May:
