When creating a custom cover how is everyone getting the details of the movie for the back and formated correctly?

Whole thing:

3118 x 1748 pixels

Spine (start) to (end):

1490 to 1630, horizontally.

So, front is from 1630 to 3118, and the back is 0 to 1490.

So, where do I find the movie details to put on the back cover?

For me...
Movies that haven't come out yet:
I have templates I use for each studio so I don't have to reproduce everytime I do a Warner, Universal, Paramount etc cover each time. It has all the legal mumbo jumbo at the bottom all ready, just having to change © dates etc. For the spec boxes, usually looking at IMDB tells me the aspect ratio and run times, stuff like that. Audio specs are usually standard (or common) now with Studios, we know Warner is a fan of Dobly TrueHD and Fox loves DTS-HD and so on. For credits, it can always be found on The Movie Poster for the movie your making, just retype it in the correct font on the cover. This really applies to a movie say just now or coming to the theater. Blu-ray.com has more spec details on movies coming soon to blu-ray. Special Features are often a guess until the actual movie gets detailed on Blu. I often have to update a little when the details get released.
And I never use a Warner Spec Box on a Fox cover and so on - Studio layout is important to me to match to make it look authentic. Wouldn't want to use a Paramount template for Star Wars!

Movies that are already out:
Its all there on the case, or Blu-ray.com gives you all the specs, subtitles, run times etc and often lists the special features in the reviews.

For those who don't have templates made yet, I have no problem with anyone using my covers for a backdrop to build your template over it as a guide. Just find your logos, match your fonts (sometimes you can't find the correct font so just match it as close as you can), build them on top of a cover, then delete the sample cover and there you go, you have a template you can use every time. That's partly how I got started. I've attached a clear template (3118x1748 @ 300dpi) with the spines and guides layed out (turn on your 'view extras' on the "View" tab in Photoshop). Just have to drop in a cover and start building up your template. Also when searching for logos or images, always search the web using view Extra Large images at first, this will help weed out all the unusable images or logos, since you never want to use a logo that's only 88x44 or an image that's only 400x500 etc. The bigger the better print quality. Don't forget to look at the studios "Movie Web Site" (example: www.transformersmovie.com) for nice large posters or images from the movie to download.

Hope this helps a little for future cover artists!!

X-Men Trilogy: All came in 3D cases (with digital copy)
- Used and threw out digital copy discs
- Moved all three to 2D cases (got from source at local video store)
- Used my spare 3D cases for:
--- Austin Powers Trilogy
--- Matrix Trilogy (special features in pouch)
--- Pirates of the Caribbean Trilogy (special features in pouch)
- *I've actually sold my copies of X-Men to a friend and have the UK
version with a 6D case on order from amazon so I can have them all
in one case as well

Blade Runner: Came in 5D case
- Stored all extra discs apart from main feature in pouch
- Moved to 1D case with custom cover
- Used 5D case for Band of Brothers (minus special features disc six)

Wall-E: Came in thicker 3D case
- Used and threw out digital copy
- Moved to 2D case
- Used 3D case with custom cover for Ocean's Trilogy

I wish all sets or trilogies would come in a single case, it just looks so much nicer (pending no more sequels)(Kill Bill, Grindhouse, National Treasure, etc.). Like the Saw movies, I have them in custom cases, but after VI is released (the last one), I hope to put them all into a single thick case!

That's just my opinion!
If you don't mind me asking, do you have links to the custom covers you are using for the following:

austin powers
band of brothers
matrix
blade runner

I want to do the same for the turtles set that is coming in Auguest because I am sure they will not have individual cases or they will be the slim ones and oh boy do I hate those. You can just PM me the links if you like.

Cover Guide
Thanks for the Blank Template. I am assume you get your images online, I have already started playing around with the template how do you get your pictures clear? So far, I am getting nothing but blurry images. You mentioned you had no problem providing an existing cover you have made in order for others to build from there, can you provide one.

Thanks for all the help. I just got back from buying Adobe Photoshop 7 and trying to see how the process/program works.

Photoshop 7 will do you fine. For the images just make sure that your images are high enough rez. Make sure they are at LEAST the dimensions of your front/back/spine etc.. if you're doing a picture for the front make sure the image is at least 1500x3118 (bare minimum). I personally would hook up with a good cover site for resources like R1db.com or hirezcovers.net

Thanks for the info. R1db.com has some good stuff. You mentioned the image needs to be 1500x3118 minimum but I didn't find much when I googled say "Underworld".

The Problem with R1DB is lack of Blu Ray covers and lack of activity. Yeah they have people pumping out great standard dvd stuff but very little on the Blu Ray front whatsoever.

Actually 3118 is the length of the entire cover, so your cover image or back image should actually be 1488x1740 minimum or 1628x1740 (for spine included images) minimum to ensure no blurring. Just remember when scaling down big images, be sure to adjust it evenly % for top and bottom to prevent distortion.

Some older movies, resources are hard to find, you just have to look and look. And use all the search engines, not just google, some have stuff others don't.

I Have Photoshop 11 (CS4) and for making covers, Photoshop 7 will work just fine, the changes in Photoshop for what your doing in that area are not going to effect you making good covers.

Good sites for good resources are:
EuphoricFX - my fav
DVD Cover Fuzion
You can join these for free and have access to resources but can't download finished covers for free. Always recommend uploading your finished covers to any site you get resources from (just respectful) and never post resources from one site to another. (you'll get banned) - That doesn't count for your own completed cover, you can post that anywhere on as many sites as you want, but you'll find a favorite place and usually stay there. And always introduce yourself after you join, just don't snatch and run

You wouldn't happen to have custom covers for the first two Pirates Of The Caribbean movies would you? What I'm actually looking for is the same covers without their little swoosh on the side to match the third movie. Any help would be great.

Thanks!

Does anyone have or can create a single cover for the following trilogies:

Transporter
Resident Evil
Bourne
Fast and the Furious
Underworld series

Or one cover for both Kill Bill movies?

Or a Close Encounters custom?

I know I am throwing a bunch out there, but I'm not good enough to make covers and you guys here are really good at this kind of thing.

Thanks in Advance!!

Does anyone know where to get templates for each studio that already has the credits, bar codes, etc formated or does anyone have there own they would be willing to share? If not, any tips on how to format the back cover would be great. I am new to this and so far I have been able to get the images I want but the film detail I am finding difficult. I believe R1db.com has templates but when I download the blu-ray versions and then try and open the file it states "File can not be found".

Help...

most likely that is happening because the templates are created in CS3 or CS4. Your version is too old to support some of the stuff done there.

Here you go:

http://www.dvdcoversfuzion.com/forum...splay.php?f=33

They're RAR files, but they open up to PSD, which worked in GIMP, so I assume it works in Photoshop.

Good luck!

Exclamation Missing Covers

After going through my collection, I have some movies that still have yet to see custom covers! If anyone has noticed any of them or plans on making any of them, please let me know!

Hairspray
National Treasure 1&2 (either as a set or individually)(the ones around look just like the originals)
Otis
Repo! The Genetic Opera (after seeing some of the great movie posters, there must be someone who can make something cool!)
Star Trek The Original Series: Season 1
Super Troopers
World Trade Centre
The X-Men Trilogy (I have the UK large-case version tho! But it uses a slip-sleeve that needs to stay on to read the spine!)
bpmford: Previews for all my custom covers are HERE. PM me with titles if you are interested in any of them.
Rules for obtaining my covers: 6 month or older membership, or some one I know and trust.
Blu-Series: I do not take requests any more, but you can send me a PM if you want what I've already done.
