All true.

All I'm saying is that Onkyo (particularly the 605's & 705's) has been the object of fascination because of it's low price point and best array of features for the price at the time (3 HDMI 1.3a, DTS-HD MA / Dolby TrueHD decoding, etc.). No one else that I know of had all those features available in one package early on except for the expensive sets (Pioneer Elite, Denon, etc.). Onkyo was first-to-market with something affordable.

I have been very happy with that choice so far. Like I said, it's not the best, but it works for me...and my budget.

Well said. Whats point of my buying a $1500-$2000 receiver if i dont have the speakers or can even blast it to its fully potential? I'd be stuck with same sound and capabilities that a onkyo can do for me.

I don't much like any of the mass market fare but until the day Arcam supports the HD codecs and HDMI audio, Onkyo is about the best of the worst.

I hope you're joking. I will go off on you if not. That's a pretty bold statement. I dare you to say that to dobyblue. Onkyo is a great company. Granted, they aren't the end-all company of home theater, but they're pretty damned good. Please explain why they "aren't good." I'm dying to know.
My recommended setup for Home Theater Virgins:

Speakers: Polk Monitor 50's, Polk Monitor 40's, Polk CS2 Center, and eD subwoofer or
HTIB: Polk 5.1 system and
Receiver: Non-Network Onkyo TX-SR608 or Onkyo HT-RC180 Network Receiver
Monoprice-For all your cable needs...

Of course something 10x the price of an Onkyo would sound better. It's the same way with any other company. I just don't understand how that makes it bad. I'm sure the speakers you listened to were better than the one's you own too, not to bring you down or anything though. I'm sure they're great.

When the 605 came out it was $499, the 705 was $799, the 805 was like $1,100. In my world a $200 or $300 receiver would be cheap. Its that the Onkyos were the 1st more affordable receivers with the advanced codecs. Thats probably why more people have them. Either way, Im ok with mine.

LOL! Nice. I bet it sounds great. The cool thing is, both of us are enjoying the benefits of HD audio, thanks to Onkyo.

Then go home and see the best price you can get it online for.

Yes we all are. I bought the 875 for 4 HDMI inputs and the Reon. Unfortunatly the reon is off now. But it also has 140 wpc and some other stuff which I bought it for so Reon is not a big deal to me. All sources I use games Movies etc. ARE 1080p except for the occasional dvd.

I live in Canada, we get ^%$()( on Onkyo gear, I paid 1500.00 for mine with the warranty. I could have bought an Arcam off of Audiogon for 1700
