We rented it a while back - I think it came on DVD from Netflix, but we loved it. That is one I added to my buy list.

Not to be a smart ass but why would you need English subtitles?

I purchased the Nordisk Film release of "Children of Men" at the height of the format war and you can find this region-free disc at Axel Music for around $40. The main menu only offers the nordic language choices so you will have to turn the language off using the remote. It will then default to English. It is truly a terrific disc that I will only upgrade if the inevitable Universal release has stellar PQ and AQ as well as some decent featurettes about the making of this masterpiece. This is one of the few films that would motivate me to watch all the extras. I highly recommend this disc if you are a fanatic about the film and lack patience like me!

Besides the COMBO issues, COM looked and sounded excellent on HD DVD. But COM with DTS-HD MA should surpass the already better sounding DD+ track that was featured on the HD DVD.

There have been more than a few occasions where I've had to turn on the English subtitles simply because some lines are spoken too softly, mumbled, and/or spoken with such a thick accent (usually southern) that I can't comprehend what they're saying.

Actually, I was just watching Starship Troopers last night and turned on the subs a couple of times to try and figure out what a character was saying.

...and hell, English is my native (and only) language.

On the topic of Children of Men I have an import copy of it, and the PQ is spectacular. The audio, while DD 5.1 only, is still very good. If this does get released here in the US I'll be tempted to double-dip. One can only hope that we get this kind of picture quality, though.
