I have the BD55 do the codecs and feed it to my Denon through ext in in analogue to get the most I can. When the disc has multiple sound tracks, does the 55 pick the best one to play automatically, or should I change it through the setup of the disc?

You need to select it yourself. Many discs default to a lossless track. But, not all. Warners releases, for example, default to DD 5.1.

Panny bd55 to Onkyo 876 to Sammy 63" plasma all via hdmi. new this Xmas. Fantastic sound and picture...until tonight.
Turned on system to watch the rest of a movie and no sound. If I switch bd55 from bitstream to pcm then I have sound. Back to bitsream and nothing. The onkyo decodes all the bd55 audio formats. Bitstream was great until tonight. Swapped hdmi cables and tried different hdmi input on Onkyo but no luck. Any ideas? Thanks |

problem solved (hopefully for good) by doing a complete system reset and running set-up again.

Hi all. I got the Twilight on blu-ray last March 21 and watched it that night with my family. I have a Panasonic BD55 with digital optical connection to my Yamaha RX-V1 AV receiver. On several occasions, (too many I lost count) I noticed audio drop outs. I did not try to see if they are replicable (if there is such a word) nor tried analog. I did not have any similar problems with other movies.
Anyone having this same problem? Thanks |

I haven't experienced dropouts... Have you updated the firmware? - We're on 1.8 already.

md99 - There's a sticky for questions about choosing a new BD player. Please don't post your inquiry in every player thread you are considering. Thanks.

"Twilight" seems to have gained the level of infamy with all the havoc it seems to be causing with various players, particularly with the Panasonics. Sounds like the disk wasn't authored very well to me........

I have tried discs 1,2, and 6 for several episodes and the Panasonic BD-55 will pause on its own several minutes into each episode I have tried so far. I can hit the play button and the episode will resume but then it will pause again on its own several minutes later. I have gone back and replayed to the time where it has done it and it will be fine at that point, but then will do it again later. I have the latest firmware version 2.0 as of now. Has anyone else had the problem? Thanks.

Well, since the BD55 is kinda outdated (replaced by the BD60 & BD80) you might want to consider taking it back, if you can. Do you have the ability to try those disks on a friend's BD player to see if they play w/o pausing? Check Panasonic's website to make sure you have the latest FW update. I have the BD80. Originally there was a scene in 2001 where it paused, but once I did a FW update, it's never happend again. If you can't take back the player, try taking back the disks for another set (couldn't hurt to try). Maybe they'll behave better.

See, this is why I thought the whole BD Live internet connection thing was a non-feature. All I wanna do is watch the damn movie. Most of the time, I don't give a rat's ass about such things. I rarely watch any of the "extras" even on DVDs.
But, you'd think someone at Panasonic in the firmware group woulda figgerd out that, while one is playing a disk, ignore network traffic unless requested by the user. Feh.

Must be server traffic jam--keep trying. Or just d'load from their site and put it on a disc and install from there. http://panasonic.jp/support/global/c...5/bd55_na.html |

I'm assuming you have the unit connected to a wired network? Are you sure IT is operating alright and the player is configured and "talking"?
Have you done any firmware updates? With the BD55 there may not be anymore updates. I could be wrong. In general, kinda need more information than you've provided..... If you believe everything is working properly and the unit is connected to the network, and you believe there should be an update available but still cannot download one direct to the player, the only other option is to download one from the mfr's website and very carefully follow their directions on how to make a CD you put in the player and it updates the unit's FW. It's not too hard, go for it.

I just picked up a new BD burner and was curious to see if anyone has any idea if the Verbatim 97090 Low to High In-groove Recording (BD-R LTH) will play on the 55? I see they do for the newer models, but couldn't find if these things play LTH media? Thanks
