I second that! A.I. is the most underrated film of Spielberg's career! And I loved the performances from Haley Joel Osment, Jude Law, and Frances O'Connor! Now that Spielberg has finally broken off Dreamworks' ties to Paramount by going right back to Universal, I feel that a Blu-ray release of A.I. is definitely in order, right along with the likes of Jaws, Minority Report, E.T., War of the Worlds, and Jurassic Park!

Definitely, A.I. isn't just one of Spielberg's most underrated, it is flat out one of the most underrated and misunderstood films of all time. This would be totally glorious on Blu Ray!

Has been on my Amazon wish-list for months now.
Would also love that CGI flick, ROBOTS. That little Timothy robot who watches the gates of Big Weld City is a hysterical little douch.

It's definitely a film that appreciates with time. I find that happens with Kubrick's movies. THE SHINING was met with some fans of King (including King himself) just hating the movie, but it's now a horror classic. Same thing with FULL METAL JACKET. I think when it came out, Ebert only gave it 2 1/2 stars, and it was seen as a knock-off of APOCALYPSE NOW. But 20 years later, it's both a classic war movie and a classic "guy" movie. And while EYES was trounced critically and met with indifference at the box office, it's now considered a modern day classic.
So I think the same thing will happen with A.I., which one could see as Kubrick by proxy, or at least Kubrick's gift to Spielberg. I think by 2011, it'll be a new sci-fi classic. |

They have to get Spielberg's entire Dreamwork's catalog out there: SPR and Minority Report, too.
The past tense of the verb "cast" (as in "to select an actor for a role") is not "casted." It's "cast." You would say they "cast" Viggo Mortensen as Aragorn, not that they "casted" Ian McKellan as Gandalf.

I like the movie. Do it number one. Full speed ahead. BUT it it's gonna take a few years, then forget it... I'd rather wait for the next format what-ever it'll be.

I hope to see some more Spielberg titles hit stores (and no folks, not 1941 or Always). AI I have always loved and didn't understand the hate when it came out. Jurassic Park(first 2 anyhow), AI, Minority Report, Munich, Jaws and War of the Worlds I would consider getting on Blu for sure.
1924 DVDs,
976 Blu-rays, 169 HD DVDs, 37 Laserdiscs & counting... |

i agree. this is my favorite movie. i think it's underrated and misunderstood. two of the best directors in history worked on this one, of course steven finished it; but isn't that what stanley wanted? kubrick knew spielberg had a sensibility he didn't, and it shines in ai. i definitely can't wait for a blu-ray release! i expect it to come out in 2011 though, alongside a 10th anniversary dvd release.

It's called George Lucas Syndrome. Sometimes it is referred to as "douchebagitits" or "Imahackitis". It's a crippling disease that has several side effects including preventing certain directors from releasing their movies on Blu-ray. There is a cure for this disease but sadly this cure takes time to work. The cure usually begins to work once the new format is on its way out. It's a tragedy and it's unsure whether Speilberg or others have taken this cure yet. Spielberg has expressed support for Blu-ray, but his words are all B.S. If his words held any weight where are some of his more recent movies? (Blowing smoke is another tragic side effect of George Lucas Syndrome).
