I sold off my DVD set of the first 8 flicks when these started coming out on Blu. Guess I need to get the new set, which for some reason, only seems to be available at Best Buy. At least the price is decent at $29.99 (it's a revised version of the Ultimate Collection that was released last year- not sure if it is missing anything other than the mask). I already have the first three on Blu but it's cheaper to buy this way than trying to buy 4 through 8 separately.

Shocking really considering how much money this franchise made for Paramount in the 80's. They just seem clueless!

Exactly. They can keep releasing the movies on DVD and for some reason piracy doesn't affect that. But Blu-Ray they will only release if another sequel gets made.

Maybe if they hadn't messed around releasing the movies on DVD, then Crystal Lake box set, then what, deluxe edition DVD's and then the Box set with the mask?

For example (info from Amazon) - Part 4:

DVD Release Date: October 17, 2000
From Crystal Lake to Manhattan Release Date: October 5, 2004
Deluxe Edition DVD Release Date: June 16, 2009
Friday the 13th: The Ultimate Collection Release Date: October 4, 2011

I don't know how much sense it made to release that box set last year. Did they forget they were releasing something on a basically out dated format? If it was Anchor Bay doing that when they were cranking out the Evil Dead films I would have just though, ok, they wanna milk some more $ outta the DVD's before they do the Blu-Rays. But Paramount just seems to be.. dumb for lack of a better word. You would think they'd have more forward thinking people in charge of their home video releases.

You sold the original boxset? If so, you're missing a few commentaries and features.

Paramount didn't include all the features from the first DVDs on the Deluxe editions?

From what I see, the Deluxe edition of Part 3 does not have the cast commentary track. Only the Friday The 13th Box Set: From Crystal Lake To Manhattan has it.

I did some research and so far I see that is the only thing missing on the new box, unless the featurettes on the bonus disc in the first set are completely different from those found on the deluxe editions. Does anybody know if this is the case?

All the commentaries are different on the box set from the deluxe editions. There are various featurettes as well that are exclusive to the set.
Don't ask me why Paramount didn't port them over.

Why didn't Paramount port them over?

Seriously annoyed and the reason I didn't snag the "Deluxe" versions.

Now there's a big hole in my movie collection where I've got 1-3 on BD and JGTH/JX on DVD. Sitting patiently for Paramount to release 4-8... which we all know is unlikely to happen anytime soon.

Wish someone would green light another sequel (or a decently written one for that matter) to get Paramount moving on that.

No matter what s*itty $5 film sees the light as long as we see them all on BD. Though part X video cd is enough of that particular film for me..But all the rest parts 4-9 I would buy ASAP if released in BD.

Honestly, I wouldn't pass up getting the deluxe versions over the lack of ported features. The stuff that was newly created for the releases is excellent. The transfers look fantastic for DVD as well.
In my case, I have a buddy with the box-set, whom I could just make burned copies of the discs if I really cared that much about the various goodies left off (it is OOP, so it's not as if I have to feel guilty that I'm robbing Paramount of money). But honestly the new new stuff that Dan Ferrands produced more than made up for the snafu Paramount pulled.

From what I heard the commentaries were a rights issue (?), but the featurettes was a disc-space issue and paramount didn't want to spend $$$ on a special features only disc.

I was hopeful that the transfers on the Deluxe editions would be a lot better than the original releases. I sold the first set to a good friend so I can at least borrow it in order to record the commentaries on CD and review the bonus features. I'll probably bite the bullet and pick up the new set at Best Buy. $29.99 is worth paying to have Parts 4 through 8 back in my collection.

I don't know what all features are on the Deluxe Editions or the box set without looking, but I did quick look up the features on the bonus disc from the Crystal Lake to Manhattan set on dvdcompare.net cause I wasn't gonna type it all by hand looking at mine. lol

Finally ordered the uncut Blu-ray. Can't wait to see this classic again in glorious HD. Hope the cropping doesn't bother me too much. But then again, it never really has, since I've never seen the uncropped R-rated version. The uncut version is the only version I ever saw. But I read that the uncut Blu-ray is even more cropped than previous uncut DVDs. Is that true?

The cropping never bothered me as I had always seen the original that way, as the uncut DVD that was released in 2003 in the UK by Warner Bros. was the same.
