Default Which Onkyo Would Benefit Me More - 805 or 806?

I have read the other threads here and leaning towards the 806. Mainly for the "future proof" factor. Cost is not bad either.

Here is my background - I am partially deaf in my left ear, about 50% or more gone. Right ear is 10% gone. So, sound to me is important but also I am a realist. Some things I will never hear. So my question is, will a system like this be a waste of money or help me?

I have an Onkyo 7.1 system upstairs and loved it when I was using it. However I would like a system downstairs now. I forget what model it was but it was a HTIAB from them. Bought a year or so back. Does not have HDMI on it.

I guess what I am saying is - I am not an audiophile. So if the sound is just barely noticeable, I probably won't notice it. However, I also want the best because that's just the way I shop.

Hope I am not confusing anyone and I make some sense. I love movie watching and can hear the surround sound, voices, whooshes and all that. Just not as good as most here can I guess? Its weird because I have been this way all my life so it's normal for me. I suppose I should be shooting for the best sound possible in my position?

Just open to ideas.

805=better.
My recommended setup for Home Theater Virgins:

Speakers: Polk Monitor 50's, Polk Monitor 40's, Polk CS2 Center, and eD subwoofer or
HTIB: Polk 5.1 system and
Receiver: Non-Network Onkyo TX-SR608 or Onkyo HT-RC180 Network Receiver
Monoprice-For all your cable needs...

Thank you. I will check it out. Been hard comparing the two since they both seem identical except for a few specs.

shouldn't you be "NOt" listening to loud noises?
wouldn't it make it worse on your ears?
well i would purchase the 806, but i just ordered an onkyo 805 from amazon!
if i did not have my rf-82's and had some less power hungry speakers like polk or some thing i would of gone with the 806!

Why the 6 over the 5? I thought the 6 had better power output than the 5 to speakers? Or did I read wrong?

Indirect loud noises are fine. Loud noises through headphones are bad bad bad! I don't crank it that much anyways.

805 in my opinion. Not just cause I own one, but the 805 is a tank!!!
Burr Brown DAC's and 13lbs heavier = better receiver!

Yeah, if you drop your 805, the only thing that will break will be your floor. (Don't try it )

Actually, I think their basically the same it's just the 806 is a newer model. I have been looking into an Onkyo myself and that is what I get from the info on the Onkyo website.

Sorry for your hearing loss but before I purchased my 805. I read two very good reviews on these A/V receivers.
1. http://www.hometheaterhifi.com/volum...06-part-1.html
2. http://www.hometheaterhifi.com/proce...-receiver.html
I hope these will help you.

I had first bought the 605 and taken it back within 2 weeks and gotten the 805. I did it because I felt like I was missing something(just the extra codec)

Now I want to add a 606 to the bedroom. I was going to get the 605, but the 606 has a better up-convertor on it.

My bedroom TV only goes to 1080i and that is what the 606 does, It up-converts to 1080i
Main Theater Setup:
(Panasonic 65" HDTV) (Onkyo 5008) (Onkyo M-282) (PS3 Slim 250gb)(XBOX360 4GB)
(Monitor Audio - RX2's - (4)RXFX - RX CENTER) (SVS - (2)PB12 Plus) (Harmony 1100) (Monster HDP-2400)
Bedroom Setup:
(Samsung LN40B610) (Onkyo 805) (Sony BDP-S570)(Monster HDP-1800)
(Klipsch - F2's - C2 - Quintet III's) (Personal built 10" Sub) (Harmony 880)
