my Vaio laptop (vgn-ar71m) (bought in UK) is having problems playing a UK blu ray disc, it says "mismatch between disc and player region codes, see disc packaging for details" on WinDVD (software included in the bundle)
although seems to play another blu ray (i'm pretty sure it's a US version) so i'm not sure why it's having problems with a genuine UK version ![]() any ideas? |

Usually in the options of the software, you can set the region code. It's possible, that your region A Blu-ray Disc has set the setting to region A. This would block your region B Disc from the UK (as long as these discs are in fact all region locked).
See, if you can find the setting in the WinDVD options and change it to region B. Please note, that changing the region code is often limited to 5 changes, until you can't change it anymore. (I am using PowerDVD, but i guess WinDVD would be similar. ) |

If your drive is not panansonic, then you can use AnydvdHD bypass.

My Panasonic DMP-BD30 can't play discs from Universal Studios - a Netflix rental "Traitor" and a new purchase "Reservoir Dogs". All the other discs play fine so far, except a few freezes here and there. Anybody has this kind of problems? I'm really tired with all the issues I've been having with blu-ray discs even though they look and sound much better. Some of them can't even resume where they were stopped.

As andyman stated first thing you'd want to do is to check for updates. Sony released an update to WinDVD on 21 Nov 2008 for WinDVD version BD8.0.9.617. The download can be found here:
http://support.vaio.sony.co.uk/downl...=VGN-AR&m=3253 Not sure when you purchased the laptop, but a firmware update was also released for your blu-ray drive on 3 Jun 08 and can also be found via the link provided above.
