The only PRO-Vietnam movie I've ever seen. Good theme song though.

yep it was the government using an american icon to try and rally up some support for that so called police action. It didnt work though and was a box office dud. It was a pretty good book though.

Sgt. Barry Sadler (November 1, 1940 September 8, 1989) sang the song.

That is for sure. I only seen it once, must be 30 years now, I must have been 10 years old. It was on the local TV station on a Saturday night, parents were playing cards or something. I don't remember very much of it but I do remember it did not look at all like Vietnam. I sort of recall how it look more like a World War 2 movie then a Vietnam story. I might still want too see it again since it's been so long since I've seen it.

Yes, it was.

I dont know when but its been out awhile. Though I dont really like it, I have a family member who does and was going to buy it...but just kept putting it off for I wasnt willing to pay full price for it. That has been awhile (looks like I got out of buying it).
Someday we'll look back on this and it will all seem funny

Default The Green Berets.

Green Berets a Box Office dud? Between domestic and foreign box office returns it made more than Three times it's cost.

This comes from perhaps the best biography on John Wayne called John Wayne: American by Randy Roberts and James S. Olson. Worth checking out.

You do realize you were responding to a post from over a year ago?

One of the only duds in The Duke's incredible career. The Conqueror was the other one. I like the Sgt Barry Sadler song though!

Agreed. Green Berets, definitely not one of his best but IMO still enjoyable on a politics aside action story level. I guess it depends on what you compare it to. Now the Conquerer? Well...Do we really wanna open that box?

I would buy it! As for it not correctly showing Vietnam I can't comment (I was born in 1968) but I do know that it was a movie and not a documentary! Take it for what it is.

There so many other John Wayne films that need to go blu first: McClintock, True Grit, The Shootist, Sands of Iwo Jima,The Man Who Shot The Liberty Valance, The Alamo, Red River, The Quiet Man Rio Grande, and the list goes on...

I also saw it a long time ago, when it was first run in the summer of '68 (I was 12 then). It had somewhat of a personal impact because my step brother was in Vietnam at the time. Not one of my favorite John Wayne movies, but I will still buy it for posterity's sake.
