Default Casablanca...worth the blind buy?

I never saw it but I've heard about it for years. It's coming out on Blu this Tuesday and just thought I'd get some feedback. It looks like it's coming in a special packaging. I really don't need all of the goodies but I guess it's good for the fans. I'm guessing it's the only way to obtain a copy on blu-ray? They'll probably release the movie itself a little down the road.

I'm also wondering if it's a dvd-size case. It looks like it's the same "Dirty Harry Collection style" I'd rather it be blu-ray size but we can't always win I guess. Here's a few pics for your viewing pleasure. 1st pic is indeed the dvd edition but the same stuff comes with the BD edition as well.

I guess it depends on your movie tastes. Do you enjoy classic films?

Personally, I love Casablanca. I've been a fan since I first discovered it on VHS. It's got some of the greatest snappy dialogue of any movie ever. And it actually gets better on subsequent viewings.

Blind buy? You might want to rent it first and if it sticks with you buy it later. I'm hoping to get this for Christmas.

A true masterpiece. A love story for the ages. I was in a trance the first time I saw it.

I've actually never watched this either. I can't do a blind buy on this one. That sets looks real nice though.

Definitely one of the finest films ever made but I am not sure I would be buying this overpriced edition as a blind buy. Wait for it to drop in price a little or until Warner releases a standard edition.

If you haven't seen it, you're in for a treat. Especially if you're a Bogart fan (who isn't?). I'll get a review up shortly after this arrives.

I love this film, too. It's a shame that they didn't release just a regular Blu-ray case also. I've got this film on VHS and DVD...and I really don't want a huge collector's box, to be honest.

the price is the only reason id hesitate. if there was a standard 2 disc without all the extra bells and whistles that jack the price up i'd say 100% worth a blind buy.

I don't WANT the set... just the movie. I've never seen it, but like older movies (12 angry men, citizen kane, to kill a mockingbird, it's a wonderful life, A christmas carol, in the heat of the night). Also looking forward to gone with the wind someday... never seen that either.

If you don't pick this one up you'll regret it. Maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, but soon and for the rest of your life.

Yes, if your into classic films it's worth the blind buy.

One of the best films ever. But... wait for a less pricey option. Shouldn't have to be paying over 20 bucks, much less twice that. (Kinda holding the blu-ray folks hostage; sticking with my red copy.)

[Edit: Pretty irritating how Warner just loves to milk these things over and over and over... Hope it's their biggest flop.]

I'd generally not spend that much money on a blind buy of any sort. Maybe rent it or borrow it first, and then buy it if you enjoy it. Having all that nice stuff would make it a little extra bitter if you dislike the movie.

I haven't even SEEN the movie, but I know enough to cringe at the reference...

I find it odd that this is being touted as one of the best films ever and yet not worth the price.

To me, the best movie I have ever seen is Walt Disney's Pinocchio, it was only a few months ago and right then I knew it kicked everything else I had ever seen in the water. I'd happily pay thousands for the Blu-ray Disc if movie prices were based on their prestige. In fact, to make myself feel like less of a thief for the ridiculously low price it will have, I had to buy expensive Pinocchio merchandise.

Anyway, hoping I haven't changed the subject too much.

I love this movie but for me, it has nothing to do with the price. I just don't want all of the extra stuff. By the way, I agree that Pinocchio is a wonderful movie.
