My HP21U model has the the last firmware update from Sharp which was version PN9110600. I was able to play Avatar but the chapter selection kept popping up every minute or so.
I have sent a message to Sharp asking if/when they will be posting updated firmware. Considering the number of folks who would like to watch Avatar, I hope they can do so in the near future. |

I received this player as a freebie when I picked up my new TV and I hate to be a jerk, but the player is terrible. Its unbearably slow, has a clunky interface, doesn't respond well to commands (often freezing up when you don't let it take its 40 minutes to chapter switch or turn on and/or off) and, like many others have posted, has issues playing numerous discs.

I found the best way to deal with these issues was to upgrade! I am now very happy with my blu ray player and it is not a Sharp. The worst of Sharps issues were in its customer service!

the latest update [HP50_126.RVP] that sharp has on their website is corrupt. i have done everything under the sun, from reformatting my flash drive to putting a copy of the latest firmware on another, brand new flash drive, to get this to run in software update (i am fairly tech savvy) on my blu-ray machine, to no avail. i ALWAYS the message, "more than one file detected". can ANYONE advise another course of action to install the latest update?

I just joined this forum, long time reader, so I figured I would get in on the action and also I really want to comment on the Sharp Player problems. I had all kinds of issues with my player(BD-HP21). Half the discs I tried would not play, or they would hang up and take forever to load.
FIRST, PERFORM AN UPDATE AND INSTALL MOST RECENT FIRMWARE. EVEN IF YOU HAVE THE MOST RECENT INSTALLED, INSTALL IT AGAIN. SECONDLY, AND MOST IMPORTANT, AFTER THE UPDATE AND A POWER CYCLE, YOU HAVE TO SELECT THE SYSTEM RESET OPTION!!!! The manual doesnt list this very important step for the update process. After I did the update followed by a SYSTEM RESET, I have NO PROBLEMS AT ALL!! Every BluRay disc, old, new, or even DVDs will play perfectly. It is night and day. They all load up and play without any problems. I am so glad I accidentally discovered this crucial step, because I was fed up and about to buy a new unit.
