I see your point of view which is part of the reason I didn't see the original to begin with up until i see the new one. but they did a way better job with this one being a remake compared to War of the Worlds.

(Why is that ALWAYS the majority of compliments a remake gets?...)

You were lucky, not seeing the original was not in the card for me, saw it when I was 7 way back in the mid 70's Tom Cruise was far away back then. They are just to iconic movies from my youth and it's not easy to just let go of the originals, sometimes I manage it, I loved Peter Jackson King Kong, while many did not find it that great. It's always a dice throw with me. I will see it but not in the theaters, I will wait for it to be available on TMN.

Idk but when I go and see a remake I dont go in with intentions of just seeing "another" movie, I go in and see how it stacks up to the original...and most of the time I do come out disappointed, well not disappointed more like "why the **** was this movie made? oh yeah for money"

OMG - I agree. Tom Cruise in WAR OF THE WORLDS was dreadful. So was the Matthew Borderrick GODZILLA. The originals of both were excellent. I have my doubts about the new Day The Earth Stood Still. No one messes with Gort. Does the new Gort really look like Robocop? On the other hand, I really did like the remake of KING KONG.

Other Sci-fi classics I am not too happy about remakes being made for are:

When Worlds Collide
Creature From The Black Lagoon
(I believe these two are both in pre-production)

That being said, I am somewhat intrigued at the possibility of a remake of THIS ISLAND EARTH (as of now, there are no plans for a remake that I am aware of).

Sigh... Can you imagine 50 years from now remakes being made of Harry Potter, Indiana Jones and Star Wars? Euuuueeeew.

Maybe I did not write it the right way? Sorry I mostly speak French so my English can be limited sometimes and I know my phrases don't always make sense the way I write them (even if they seem so logical in my head )

He mention that he had not seen the original War Of The World and so did not have the original story with him, unlike me who just could not let go of the original in my head. It's too bad cause the new version was not truly bad but I just wasn't able to enjoy it. My friend just keep giving me a hard time over it cause he loved it and he also love the original. It's usualy not about the movie being bad, you must have seen some of my other posts in other thread I can defend or love some movies that many will just find terrible.

I am affraid that with this new Earth Stood Still, I might once again not be able to enjoy it cause the original is such a big part of my childhood. They sure don't stack up FX wise but they just can't replace the nostalgia of the original one, I guess that's the best way to explain it. That is why I am thinking I will probably not see it in the theater, just wait for it to be on TMN.

I am so glad I am 40 years old, there is a 50-50 chance I might never get to see those remakes just too hard too think about

OMG I forgot about that Godzilla, what a piece of shit movie...and I always thought there was going to be a sequel because all the babies lived!

But the King Kong remake was good, as was the one for The Thing but other than that I cant really say I have seen a remake I enjoyed...and oh I know how you feel, I am only afraid it will be LESS than 50 years before they start remaking classics like Indy and SW
