Does anyone have any tips on how to do this? I want it to like nice, not like a homemade job. Something in between each set of films, saying the name of the director. So for blus, "Joel And Ethan Coen", then have No Country For Old Men and Burn After Reading, then another thing that says "Francis Ford Coppola", then has The Godfather boxset and Dracula. See what I mean? Like book ends in between each set of films. Something sturdy. Does anyone else do this?

I'm putting this thread in here also because there is much more traffic in this area than "Home Theater Construction" Thanks! |

A couple of years ago I invested in some movie cataloging software from www.collectorz.com
You enter in the bar code information and it downloads all of the information about the movie including front and back cover art. It has tons of functionality for sorting, searching, etc. Highly recommended if you have a large collection.

I guess you can buy the white dividers like they have in some video/book stores.
That's all I can think of right now. I have mine just in alphabetical order. Panasonic TC-P65VT30

Personally, I don't like the idea.
Think about it: some series are not even directed by the same director. I don't want all my "Friday The 13th" movies scattered all over my rack.

Agrees. But if you want to, I think my idea would be nice.

I agree, but don't think you there's just too many directors to make the idea practical? I mean, in a 100 Blu-ray collection, you're likely to have 70+ separate directors!

It's the best way to browse for a movie when you're in the mood for something particular ie, I want to watch a horror movie tonight. l rich_adamson, who mostly uses this site to trade, is in the top 20 in Blu-ray collection on this site. He's got about six bookshelves full of DVDs and Blu-rays. This is how he's organized his stuff and eventually forced me to change my ways. And after borrowing over a hundred titles from him, I'd have to say it's the best way to do things.
The more successful the villain, the more successful the picture. -Alfred Hitchcock

Is it practical to file books and music albums by title? If you sort books by author and music by artist, why wouldn't you sort movies by director? I understand that most folks sort movies by title (and if that's how you like it, go for it), I just find it more fitting to sort by artist for most media.

That's why it makes sense to catalog your collection using some software like what I mentioned. It will sort it for you instantly based on any number of different criteria.
