Well, after looking over a few scenes (specifically facial close ups), the Japanese version had slightly warmer and more natural colors. Carefully looking at Kim Basinger's in the liquor store, I noticed some noise on her face that I did not see present in the Japanese version. The blacks were also a bit more inky in the Japanese encode. The Japanese one is better. I would say the US PQ is a 4/5 and the Japanese PQ is around a 4.5-4.75. Soundtracks sounded close enough, but a nod went to the Japanese version.
