When you check, turn your system back on but make sure your volume is really low so you don't wake the sub up. Then turn off your system and see if it still makes the noise. I think it is either feedback from your receiver when turning it off that is feeding back through the sub cable or something with the subs amp itself that is releasing energy like a capacitor does that is triggered when shutting off your receiver.

Tried that and it does still do it. It does sound like feedback. 4-5 seconds after system is shut down the "hum" starts and lasts for 2-3 seconds. My Energy sub does not do this.

Where is it plug at in the back of the AVR? I see a few spot that can be used.

SVS is in sub 1 or the left if looking at the back and the Energy sub is in the other. Have never had a problem before. I'll give SVS a call and see what they have to say.

So you’re having an issue with just one sub and not both? If I'm reading that right, just for kicks, can you only use one sub at a time, and then switch the outputs from the AVR to the subs.

I remember this same thing happening to me when I was at my apt. I has two Kilpsch subs then. I unplugged them to do something(I can't remember), but when I plugged them up, I started having the same issue. I think I re-plugged into the wrong spot, and I cannot remember what that was.

I decided to do some testing, and when I switched something up, it went away.

This was over 2 years ago, I have a hard time remember what happened last week.

It’s possible you may have to get another sub sent to you, but hopefully we can figure out what can be the problem.

I would then try unplugging the sub cable to your Energy and see if it still does it. Even though there is two sub outputs on the Yamaha, you could be getting feedback from the Energy sub that the SVS is picking up. This is just a test.

It came! It finally came! The big one. Extremely dangerous keep out of reach of children. Man this thing is a freaking beast. I couldn't play with it too much and I haven't fully calibrated it yet, but boy does this thing rumble like no tomorrow. I threw in the destruction of Sauron at the beginning of FOTR and I have never had my house rumble like that. I am in freaking heaven. I love this thing and I haven't even done anything serious to it yet. I can't wait to play with it more tomorrow. Pictures are in my gallery.

I did call SVS. Forgot who I spoke with but he told me to power down the sub. If it makes the humming sound then it's the sub. If not it's coming from somwhere else. I just did that and no hum, so it must be coming from somewhere else. I thought I had a descent sub cable but I will try another and see if that helps. If not I will come back for more suggestions.

Went ahead and did that. Still got the hum. While it was humming I unplugged the sub cable from the SVS and it stopped. Plugged it back in real quick and hum comes back. Sounds like it is coming fromthe sub cable, right? Just need to figure out where from and why. Will change sub cable to see if that does it first.

You can try that. Lets also try something else. On the back of your receiver unplug either you L/R rca pre-out cable and plug the sub cable into that and see if it produces the same sound.

You could also try and connect the SVS in the same spot your Energy is using the same sub cable and electrical outlet your Energy uses and see if it will produce the sound.
