Default Pirates of the Caribbean: AWE not that great on Blu-ray

Just bought it for $15.00 Yesterday and thought the PQ was going to be a 10 and audio.(not)

I only ever watched the First scene in a store so looked forward to the whole movie being watched at home.

Was very shocked that it was not anything special

Maybe its my eyes I don't know

I also bought the first one for $15.00 and always liked that one, so I will see if anything does change.

You might want to check your TV settings. I thought this was one of the best looking Blu's out there.

Also, to the thread-starter.....probably a good idea to watch more than 1 scene before jumping to conclusions about the entire movie's PQ.

What about the image do you dislike? I'm assuming the grain. "Not that great" is pretty subjective, most of my Disney / Buena Vista releases are pretty top tier and this is among one of them.

I respectfully disagree. The movie was intended to have an "old look" to it to some degree, but I thought the movie looked fantastic on Blu.

Weird. I thought At World's End had the best PQ of all the Pirates BDs. It definitely has the best visuals!

I agree with the OP. And FFS its nothing to do with TV settings. If you have 100038 blu rays and one doesn't look right its nothing to do with TV settings or calibrations. Otherwise people would write down different settings for each movie.

I thought DMC has that very vibrant sparkly Disney look. The POTC:COTBP is slightly more bland looking. The 3rd one definitely goes even blander. Its no lack of detail but its definitely softer in many ways. But its still a 5.0 for PQ. Its obviously just as the director intended.

So in order of PQ -

DMC - Easily
COTBP - 2nd
ATE -Last

I did a thread about this earlier last year, saying how come 3 movies from the same franchise can get 5.0 for PQ when they look nothing alike. The answer I got was something like "if black pearl was already a 5.0, you can't give DMC a 5.5 can you?"

Something like that.

Weird... I thought this looked fantastic. Especially considerng film is made up of grain and it reproduces it flawlessly.

As for it being washed out, it's supposed to be that way as part of the story telling...

"most"?

Has Disney given us anything that doesn't have an awesome transfer? All I've seen and all I've read points to Disney being a proverbial golden goose of the industry.

I saw PotC 3 on Blu ray, and I thought the PQ was very good, not the best ever, but still very good. I also have PotC 1 on BD and it has great PQ also, I have never seen the second one on BD.

I've only seen this at a display in Best Buy, but it looked amazing. I am still saving up till I can get the trilogy but Disney's PQ is never bad.

Based on 37 user review ratings on blu-ray.com, the video was 4.9/5.0
Blu-ray review gave it 5.0/5.0
I'll give it a 5.0.

So what's not special about POTC III?
