The Fast and the Furious Blu-ray Trilogy Announced
January 26, 2009 Three more former HD DVD high-def exclusives will make their way onto Blu-ray Disc in March when Universal releases The Fast and the Furious Trilogy. The March 24 release date is less than two weeks before Universal releases the fourth film in the series, Fast & Furious, in theaters. That film will likely find its way to Blu-ray in early fall. Universal is hoping you'll see the fourth film theatrically and is dangling $7.50 worth of Movie Cash to see Fast & Furious in this set. None of the first three Fast and the Furious films will be available on Blu-ray Disc outside of the box set. It is an all or nothing deal so if you want the first film then you have to shell out for the inferior sequels as well. Each film will be presented in widescreen 1080p video and an upgraded 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio mix not found on the HD DVD versions. In addition, D-BOX Motion Code will be included on each film, another Blu-ray advantage over HD DVD. Also exclusive to Blu-ray is a digital copy of each film housed on a separate disc. Instead of a three-disc set, the digital copies push it to six discs. The bonus features are extensive, take advantage of BD-Live and appear to include everything found on the HD DVD versions. Thanks for the info. I want all 3 so this is good news for me but hopefully they'll provide each separately at some point.
Edit: BTW, what's your source for this info? |

Terrible news for those that just want one or two of the movies. Personally, I just want Tokyo Drift. Luckily, there are enough people out there that didn't like that one, so finding it relatively cheap on eBay might be the way to go.
Edit: Crap, even worse is the date. With the Bond movies coming out along with Bolt, it's going to be an expensive day Last edited by DualEdge; 01-26-2009 at 03:52 PM. |

I don't know how these studio announcements work - but is the above statement confirmed? I mean can this possibly change? It would be nice to get individual releases since I'm most interested in the first movie.

How is the retail price steep? Separately, each one would have been $29.99 each. Throw in a free ticket and digital copies, and the extra $9 seems worth it.
Welcome to blu-ray.com, where slipcovers are more important than Blu-rays.

Unless it is a good price I'm going to pass on this. The only one I really want is the first and I don't consider this a trilogy since Tokyo Drift didn't contain any of the original cast (outside a cameo) and the plot was in no way connected to the others outside of tricked-out cars.

I'd get the first two for sure. Not technically good movies, but they were definitely entertaining to me. Tokyo Drift.....ehhhh. No thanks. But this is good news, I'm sure I'll be able to find someone selling each movie seperately eventually. Thanks for the heads up.
Big Tits Zombie

This has been posted on thehdroom.com I saw it this morning. This is great news and I figured that these would be released alongside the new movie. I am planning to get the boxset. I enjoyed them even though only the first is good, the others are at least entertaining.

This is total bull. I hate when studios do this. Sure, some people want all three, but just as many want only one, or two individually. And since I want only the original, it will be much harder to find that one individually via ebay/amazon since it's the most popular of the three. I've been waiting for F&F and now I'll have to go through the trouble of buying the box set and selling the other two failures individually. Universal has been ticking me off in every aspect, especially the special features angle (i.e. Dawn of the Dead). I'm surprised the original F&F has all of the HD-DUD features ported over let alone any of the original DVD features. God forbid Universal sticks something extra on off of a previous 7-disc special edition DVD. I'm surprised they managed to put the movie on there and not just give us a blank disc with artwork.
It's Monday. Anyone else feeling sarcastic and cynical? |
