Anxiously awaiting for the UPS truck!
Congrats canative. I just want to throw out there to check on the impedance on your HTiB speakers you are using as surrounds. Sometimes they are 4 ohms, and most new receivers require 8 ohms, or possibly 6 ohm speakers. If you try to run what could be 4 ohm speakers with a new receiver that requires 8 or 6 ohms, you could end up frying your new receiver. I just wanted you to keep this in mind....perhaps its time to upgrade the surrounds as well?

So I've ran my RW-15 for about a week. Watched several movies, listened to music, watched TV shows, etc. After moving it around and raising it off the floor about 4" I still disappointed. It maybe equals 10% of what my Def Tech puts out. That's with my Def Tech turned up about 45% and it at about 75%.

I wonder if the HD series is just a lot better then the RW. I'll try seeing if they would exchange it for an HD series. But most likely, I'm stuck with it and will just have to make due, may just come alive one of these days.

It sounds like the amplifier on the new sub is defective. A 15" subwoofer is big and bulky. It is possible that the box was dropped and the amp got damaged. File a compaint with UPS. If you can get a round trip shipping reimbursement from UPS, The Deep Discount will send you a new sub free of charge. Contact them immediately.

I hope you have registered your sub within 10 days for warranty to be valid.

I submitted the warranty within 5 minutes of opening the sub.

Forsberg thanks for the heads up...I will definitely be swapping out my surrounds before I hook-up a new AVR. I am thinking of getting a couple pairs of Polk Monitor 30's for my surrounds from newegg they currently have some great prices on the Monitor series.

Talking Got my sub

Got my sub today, was kinda worried about the shape the box was in. No damage though.

I believe in breaking in a sub, but i couldn't wait.

I am definitely pleased with the performance to dollar ratio, i will be adding another identical unit to my system in the future for sure.

Its gonna take some more time to tweak it in right, neighbors r gonna hate me. Some mods are in order.

Thanks Guys and Gals!

Got the RW-15. Hits pretty hard, seems to be up to spec so far. Still testing tracks and stuff. I pounded it for a while after warming it up for an while. Pretty good sounds, i think my head unit needs changed out though. No real controls on the channels.

We have thick mat under the carpet, i will have to raise it up, its sinking much too close to the floor. Probably just cut a piece of 3/4 ply off to fit and paint it black.

Going to play a brown noise track till tomorrow that i found online. You can download it from me if you want it here > http://www.comptechwv.com/main/images/BrownNoise.mp3

Seems like a nice deep break in. I disconnected my satellites BTW, lol.

Very pleased. L8r!

I received my HD-SUB15 yesterday and was not happy. As a start, UPS did a crappy job of transporting it. The box looked like it went through a blender. When the UPS guy delivered it to my doorstep, I looked at him and said “Are you serious?” He apologized and said, “It wasn’t me but looks like it probably took a few tumbles down the conveyor belt.” I think he was right. I peeled back the ripped cardboard to inspect the woofer. I saw no damage and accepted it. When I opened it and removed the plastic, I found damage. But it wasn’t damage attributable to UPS. As you can see in my picture, the speaker has a nice slice in the black vinyl. Someone at Acoustic Audio saw it, drew over it with a black marker, wrapped it in plastic and shipped it. It is purely cosmetic, but totally unacceptable.

I am fortunate that this subwoofer is part of a small system (NHT SB-1 bookshelf speakers) I keep in my family room. (My big system is in the basement.) To satisfy my wife, this subwoofer must remain hidden behind a chair in the corner of the room. Therefore the cosmetic issue is not a problem, but it still pisses me off that Acoustic Audio shipped it like this.

When I plugged it into my system it worked fine, despite UPS’s outstanding service. Perhaps this is a testament to reasonably solid construction and rugged electronics. At first, the sound was terrible. It could not go as low as the 10-inch, 35hz, Infinity subwoofer it replaced. I was really worried. However after less than an hour, the bottom end began to expand. After only two hours of play-time, it now hits the low frequency overtones I had expected it would. Unfortunately it is a little boomy at higher volume. I’m sure the corner placement is part of the problem. For all I know, a mega-buck subwoofer might sound boomy in the corner too. Hopefully the sound will improve as it fully breaks-in.

Despite AA’s cosmetic cover-up and UPS’s terrible service, I am happy with the subwoofer. For the $235 I paid for it (list was $268), I think it is surprisingly good. Thanks to everybody, especially Big Daddy for your help.

PS. When I used the “manage attachments” button to upload pictures, it told me my file size was larger than the 97.7kb permitted. Is there another way to include pictures? Thanks.

Congratulations on your new sub. What color is it and are you using it as 2.1 or 5.1 system?

My suggestion is to move the subwoofer away from the corner. Subwoofers tend to become too boomy close to the walls.

You have two options for posting pictures. You can attach up to 5 pictures as you tried to do, but there are size limits for different files fromats.

The other method is to open an account with Photobucket and upload your picture there. Find out the address of your uploaded pictures and put the IMG tag around the address. For example, assume the address of you picture is

hhttp://www.photobucket.com/Baldeagle.jpg

All you have to do is put the IMG tag around it.

[IMG ]hhttp://www.photobucket.com/Baldeagle.jpg[/IMG ]

Please note that I intentionally misspelled http and put spaces after the IMG tags so that the Blu-ray.com editor does not interpret them as real address and picture. You normally don't put the spaces there.

The color is black and I am using this as a 2.1 system. With regard to my corner location, I built a speaker stand for my subwoofer that elevates it nine inches. Even though I must still deal with the two corner walls, getting the subwoofer off the floor completely changed its sound. 90% of the boominess is gone.

With regard to the pictures, I took them with another camera that uses fewer pixels and just cropped them until they were less than 97.7 kb. You should see one of the laceration and disgusting attempt to conceal it with black marker. You should also see one of the sub’s amplifier, one of the sub on my homemade speaker stand in its corner, and one of the room with the chair in place so you can see that no one actually has to look at my terrible carpentry work or the subwoofer.

Make sure you register your sub. You only have 10 days for warranty to be valid.

File a complaint with them and ask for some money back. I remember another member had a minor cosmetic problem a few months ago and got a few dollars of reimbursement.

For the record, I called Thedeepdiscount today to complain about my subwoofer. I received a return call from a person named Jason who was very helpful. In light of the fact that UPS beat the crap of it, he said he would contact them to request that they ship it back to Thedeepdiscount and that Thedeepdiscount would send me another new subwoofer. If UPS declines the return, Jason said Thedeepdiscount would still pay to return it and send me a new one. That sounds very fair to me. If this actually happens, I would consider that to be excellent customer service. I’ll keep you posted.
