I am way too poor/overextended these days to really take advantage of this kind of thing, but I picked up Secret Sunshine and High and Low, and added The Killers on dvd for the wife. Secret Sunshine is a blind buy, but High and Low will replace my old, non-anamorphic dvd. I wanted The Complete Jean Vigo, but that thing was gone fast. Ah well, I'll pick that up when they hit 100k

Seems a bit silly that Criterion won't sell internationally - I'd love to give them my business directly.
However, I can't complain - I've just had a bunch of blu-rays and DVDs turn up, plus I have more coming from both Amazon and B&N, so I'll be busy right up until November

I am thinking this might be a good time to go ahead and order replacement Amaray cases for the initial nine films released in digipacks. I have all nine of these films but only need seven cases since my The Third Man and Bottle Rocket were bought in their cased versions. If I throw in a film I don't have, that gets me free shipping and the six bucks I would have spent on shipping the cases is put toward a movie.

Problem is I like the digipacks for how they look and the reduced shelf space. But five out of the seven digpacks have become so loose in their sleeves that they immediately slide out when picked up. When I pulled one off the shelf a couple of days ago, even knowing it was loose in the sleeve, it still came out so fast I had to catch it before it hit the floor.

Last Year at Marienbad, though, is still hanging tough. That sleeve seems thicker and more robust than the others and grips the digipack tight.

I always heard that, but look at MoC : it's not because they don't hold the rights in the USA that they don't ship to there (and everywhere else in the world).

I believe that, in France, Wild Side also ship to the USA even if they don't hold the rights there.

And Criterion don't hold rights for Canada, but they ship there quite normally.

I think that there are other reasons for Criterion not to sell outside the USA and Canada.

I know they don't have the overseas rights, but what has that got to do with the selling?
Amazon and B&N sell these products overseas. Is there a difference between them and Criterion as retailers?

I agree, I would much rather give Criterion my money directly but it seems they are unwilling to accept it

I'll have to use the B&N sale instead, although I've read some shipping horror stories in here and other threads

I ordered 3 Women and all my replacement cases for the digipacks from Criterion. I have to admit I was not keen on the upgrade of 3 Women when it was announced three months ago. I am not an Altman fan, and had only watched a part of 3 Women years ago and recalled not liking it enough to finish watching. But I could remember nothing about the movie except that I turned it off 10 years ago.

Then I found the whole movie on youtube tonight and had a totally different reaction after watching about 20 mins of it. For me, it is a pretty clear example of how my views of film have changed over the years. While I still like the same movies I dd back then, I am now more open to new different types of films. I guess I have "matured"

I'm going to guess A Brighter Summer Day for Dec. That would make for a nice, non-denominational winter gift

They clearly make enough money with the North American market....if they wanted to they could ship internationally...

This may be completely wrong but...

Being a full time Amazon seller myself, couldn't their issue be the sheer volume of numptus that would buy them assuming they would work in their region and then complain bitterly when they receive it because it doesn't work?

Customers have a hideous record of refusing to read specs.

I'd never really considered that but now that you mention it I wouldn't be surprised if that's at least part of the equation. Given how wonky their site gets under even moderate loads direct sales aren't likely a big part of their day-to-day operations (I won't go so far as to say afterthought but...).

I could see a lot of things that dedicated retailers deal with fairly easily falling into the 'more trouble than it's worth' category for them.

Finally able to order something from Criterion.com...usually I'm all caught up!

Was glad to see the 2 new releases next Tuesday being eligible to receive the 50% off. I also picked up a coffee mug and a $10 GC for my self to get the total over $50...

I really like when they do this sort of thing for the fans...it is a nice gesture on their behalf.

Considering Criterion holds Region 1 rights it make sense they only sell to US/Canada. I don't see MOC or BFI selling their product in North America (unless you count absurd import prices on Amazon).

Masters of Cinema ship direct to the US....they seem to have a fair few customers from this forum!

Never thought of the region coding...in fairness though, if you're collecting Criterion, you're probably not a numpty

I've got the UK edition and have seen both the full 3 part version and the theatrical version. You can take it from me, you don't need to worry about the theatrical version.
Perfect, thanks man!!
