You're just angry that Red didn't won the Oscar that year? It sounds and looks a bit that way.

I like Red and I think it's better than Blue and White which are also great.

On the other hand the polish less appealing to international audiences Decalogue runs circles around all his french movies.

Oh yeah, I just noticed that. I guess there was something wrong with the way they were shipping it/their stock. I'm sure it's only a temporary issue.

During the B&N sale, will the price reflect half of MSRP ($39.99) or the current price the BD is at. Example: The Complete Jean Vigo is at $31.54 at B&N. Would it be half of $31.54 or $39.99? Do prices go back to MSRP during the sale?

It's half of the MSRP
Mitch: Oh, sh*t! Ah, that hurt like sh*t!
Samantha: I know. That's why I distracted you first. Same principle as deflowering virgins.
Mitch: Huh? What? Virgin - ? What?
Samantha: Read it in this Harold Robbins book. Guy bites her on the ear. Distracts from the pain. Ever try that?
Mitch: No, no, I sock 'em in the jaw and yell, "Pop goes the weasel."

As of right now Amazon matches the %50 off on 2 Criterions: Blow Out and Paths of Glory. The rest is between %10 and %49 off right now.

While I can't claim to keep an eye out for the prices on the ones I have already bought, this seems to be quite normal.

So I wouldn't say that Amazon has them "beat"...

Not really. Amazon only drops a few titles below $20, many are still in the $25-30 range on Amazon, and don't forget box sets. The B&N Sale is 50% off *EVERY* title, every blu-ray, box set, and DVD set. In-store member discount is another 10% on top of that. So if you are a member the starting price is basically $18.00 in-store. Then if you throw on a 20% or 30% coupon which stacks on top of member discount... well you get the drift.

Amazon is not even close.

You have a point. I'd have to drive about thirty miles, but I could use the trail membership, as well as seek out coupons. Where can I find the coupons?

It was quite nice getting the $40 Criterions for $18 during the %50 off and adding the membership discount

For people wanting to sign up today the Terms & Conditions is here.
This coupon below is good for members online and it's good for a year (until March 21 2012), so this kinda makes the "you don't get the extra 10% online" thing a wash, except when there are greater coupons available that you used to be able to use online *with* the 10% member discount.

Members
To save an Extra 10% ONLINE, enter coupon code F7C8V8N at checkout. The 10% discount will be applied to the highest-priced item in your cart. Pre-orders are not eligible with this offer. This coupon is valid from March 21, 2011 to March 20, 2012 at 2:59 a.m. Eastern Time.

Those hoping Criterion snaps up CHIMES AT MIDNIGHT-- some bad news.

A print screened this weekend at my city's cinematheque. The prints of the film are pretty rare and this one had extensive water damage on the last 1/3 of the film. Plus, the audio was average-to-below average for most of the film. To top it off, the c'theque's director said they probably shouldn't be showing the film as nobody is really sure who owns it.

With this said, it still beats the Region 1 DVD which is ATROCIOUS! In any case, this film would need a lovin' restoration to get it suitable for a potential blu-ray release.

It's a shame what's happened with many of Welles's films. I just hope to be able to see THE OTHER SIDE OF THE WIND some day. . .

Kinda like how my comment bashing Criterion's choice of releasing Traffic was deleted. Hmm...

Unfortunately, that still doesn't make this a good deal for people living in countries that doesn't get free shipping, since it only applies to the highest-priced item in the cart at check-out. With the per-order charge being at $7.49 you will have to only buy items priced at $74.90 or higher just to break even from that.

Furthermore, this coupon didn't exist when they removed the standing 10% for members shopping online, so I don't think there is any guarantee it will continue to exist.

Oh well, here's hoping there is some other great online coupons (for non-members) to coincide with the November sale!
