The problem is most of these titles have been in the works for years ! I still get excited about Criterion but seeing how Eureka is basically a smaller team of smaller resources one would think Criterion could do better. I think comparing is good sometimes, there should be a competition to outdid what the other released last time so they don't just take the customers for granted. Competition is a good thing!

But hey, they are releasing Eraserhead you guys. First time ever with English subtitles. Wait a minute.......
That is what gets me the worst. Eraserhead was just announced like a week ago and we can be certain it WILL come earlier than any of those titles. Macunaima has been on hold since 2006 and I can't take it seriously anymore .
Most Wanted BD Upgrades: Oshima's Youth Trilogy (Oshima, 1960s) - Four Months, Three Weeks and Two Days (Mungiu, 2007) - The Cranes are Flying (Kalatozov, 1957) - Los Olvidados (Bunuel, 1950) - Stalker (Tarkovsky, 1979) -Histoire(s) du Cinema (Godard, 1988) - October (Eisenstein, 1928) - Taste of Cherry (Kiarostami, 1997) - Hable con Ella (Almodovar, 2002) - The Ploretariat Trilogy (Kaurismaki, 1986-1990) - Viridiana (Bunuel, 1961) - Vamonos con Pancho Villa! (de Fuentes, 1936).

Also, Eureka always have a screen expressing how genuinely sorry they are that they were forced to region lock their blu ray. Criterion: Not a single damb is given.
Even if they didn't lock everything, you can bet there'd be plenty of highly-sought after titles that would be. It wouldn't make many people that much happier, practically speaking. Kudos to MoC for their nice apology, but I think it's more effective to just buy a region-free player than complain about companies and studios who region lock, personally...

Wait, I might have missed something...was Eraserhead announced or did it simply pop up on Hulu?

Well atleast it wasn't a movie that was block by Criterion on Youtube. OMG, Criterion release coming!

Criterion doesn't even block it's own releases from popping up on Youtube, why would people have fits over.............oh it's David Lynch, nevermind.

I suppose, but there still could be something that is preventing them from releasing the title and not just because they want to play silly bastard with us. I admit I was a bit heavy handed with my snark, but sometimes it seems like people only come to this thread to complain, and do nothing but complain.

I guess I give them more leeway than most because copyright issues and intellectual property are an area of interest for me, and I assume that some of this stuff is delayed because of those reasons.

Someone actually just bought my OOP DVD of That Obscure Object of Desire off amazon. I didn't think anyone would snap at it so soon. Just listed it. Now I just have Kind Hearts... and Coup De Torchon listed.
Stop the Replacing of original Studio Opening / Closing logos! These are becoming endangered and should be kept intact. They are part of film history.

I don't think MoC "restores" anything.

What I expect is the transfer will be released by MoC without boosting black levels and Criterion's release will. There will probably be variations on extra's.

This time they actually did. Or at least they paid someone to do it exclusively for them. One of the two.

I do too, look at all the Jaglom potshots I make. If people can say Lena Dunham slept her way into thr collection, I'll say the same about Jaglom. I also think Summer With Monika should have been a barebones release rather than Summer Interlude, so I haven't, as Joie says, completely drunk the onion flavoured kool aid and loved it.

I hear you on that... esp if they are both on good speaking terms I would think they would do more than one title and Universal would be all in for licensing to Criterion their titles, since they haven't shown any interest in releasing the blus themselves. of course I projecting but still.
