Thumbs up Green Lantern: First Flight - 7/28/2009

That was quick! The Wonder Woman movie is just coming out on March 3rd, and we already have a release date for the next DTV movie. And it's only 4 months later. I was a bit skeptical when they announced the next DTV animated feature to be Green Lantern. Since New Frontier was pretty Green Lantern focused and featured his origins. This one sounds like it'll be fun though. Especially since it's all Cosmic focused. I'll post some of the press release from ENI, and link to the full article at the end. Sounds pretty good.

Green Lantern: First Flight Come To DVD & Blu-Ray On July 28

The fabric of intergalactic justice is threatened – until Hal Jordan arrives for his initial mission – in the animated Green Lantern: First Flight, the fifth entry in the popular DVD series of DC Universe Animated Original PG-13 Movies. A co-production of Warner Premiere, DC Comics and Warner Bros. Animation, the illuminated hero’s first-ever full-length animated film is set for release by Warner Home Video on July 28, 2009. Green Lantern: First Flight will be available as a special edition 2-disc version on DVD and Blu-Ray Hi-Def for $29.98 (SRP) and $34.99 (SRP), respectively, as well as single disc DVD for $19.98 (SRP). Order due date for all versions is June 23, 2009.

Acclaimed actor Christopher Meloni (Law & Order: Special Victims Unit) fills the lead voice of Hal Jordan aka Green Lantern. Meloni is joined by fellow Emmy Award nominee Victor Garber (Milk, Titanic) as the villainous Sinestro, Tricia Helfer (Battlestar Galactica) as the voice of Boodikka, and Michael Madsen (Reservoir Dogs) as Kilowog.

Produced by animation legend Bruce Timm, Green Lantern: First Flight is helmed by heralded director Lauren Montgomery (Wonder Woman, Superman Doomsday) and scripted by four-time Emmy Award-winning writer Alan Burnett (The Batman).

Green Lantern: First Flight finds Hal Jordan recruited to join the Green Lantern Corps and placed under the supervision of respected senior Lantern Sinestro. The earthling soon discovers his mentor is actually the central figure in a secret conspiracy that threatens the philosophies, traditions and hierarchy of the entire Green Lantern Corps. Hal must quickly hone his newfound powers and combat the treasonous Lanterns within the ranks to maintain order in the universe.

I always enjoyed the Green Lantern, this one looks like it might be a winner.

So far all of the DC Animated Features have been pretty good. Batman: Dark Knight being the weakest.

Sounds good. Yeah, it sure is odd that the worst one thus far is Gotham Knight. You would have thought a Batman one would be the best!

This will be a first day purchase for me. About time they released something with Hal Jordan as GL. It always irked me that they had to put John Stewart as the character in The Justice League Unlimited series. He was GL for a far shorter time period than Hal, and they probably included him for a diversity factor. I'm glad Bruce Timm is involved. The suck possibilities are a lot lower if he's on the project.

Thank goodness it's not Guy Gardner either.

Agreed. I LOVE Batman, but I did not like, or buy Gotham Knight.

Been waiting to see if someone could make a GL animation that stands on it's own. Fingers crossed that this one keeps up the flow of good work from Timm and the gang. With Alan Burnett scripting, it'll at least be entertaining.

This looks like it might another decent DC animated title to get. I'm looking forward to the Wonder Woman movie as well. The Batman: Gotham Night BD was a disappointment. Some of the stories weren't that good and the animation was horrible also. Aside from that, the others have been interesting.

Now if only DC/Warner could get their act together and produce some good live version of these characters, it would really make my day.

I really liked Gotham Night in the sense of being a different perspective of the story telling.

I did not find Gotham Knight so bad either, like you it's a different way of looking at Batman. I love the first story with the kids talijg how they saw Batman.

Wonder what they'll do for the next feature? Legion of Super-Heroes could be fun.
