I haven't had any issues with mine, and it's still going strong (knock on wood). For getting a cheap Blu-ray player, it's been a great investment for me. Believe I'm using firmware 2.16 as of this moment, and zero issues.

I got 2.16 (updated today) in my 1600 and I can't play TRON without a lot of interference.. It's pixling, hanging, high pitching from player, sound drop outs, cracks and hisses. It changes some then I eject the disk and start over again, but still problem. In other words, I can't watch the film.. I have had problem whit Avatar but not as much as this.. Maybe a HW upgrade will help me..

Is this post going to fall on deaf ears? I think it will but I hope someone can indulge me...

Got The Condemned for 5 bucks from Wal Mart yesterday (), popped that sucker in tonight and it froze and pixelated on the first preview. I took it out, put it in my 1500 and nothing, put it back in 1600 and fine...no issues w any of the previews and most importantly, the film...

A isolated glitch or should I worry?

I would exchange the disc, this often is the problem, even if there are no visable defects.

A Question For Bluray Collectors - YouTube
It still could be; I have had discs that play well on one player and terribly on another, I exchanged the disc and it played well on both.

I now think its the 1600 taking a while to "warm up". I usually turn on, leave alone 30 seconds and then put a disc in, I did that this morning to the same issue on said disc. So I powered it all off for a few hours and then turned on as I did a few house chores and left player on with no disc. 10-15 min, pop in said disc and no sound from the laser having trouble reading that part of the disc and no said issue. I will probably test later soon to make sure, but I think I solved the mystery.

Sometimes it does it, sometimes not. But odd thing is if you rewind the trailer, its fine. I can live with it, its just the first few seconds of a trailer I usually skip anyways.

Default Can't update to latest firmware

My 3 year old P1600 has been fine for the most part but I've had a couple issues with BluRay discs recently so I decided to update the firmware. I was on 2.05. When I connected to the network, it old me the latest is 2.08 but on the Samsung website, it is 2.22. I did the update to 2.08 via the network and it did not solve the latest problem (21 Jump Street froze at the 59 min mark and would not advance, nor could I skip to the next chapter.)

I downloaded the 2.22 Zip file and extracted the RUF file to a USB flash drive. It is the only file on the drive. The P1600 does not see the firmware file so I can't update to the latest firmware. (Selecting system update via the USB icon gives me a message saying there is no network connection.)

Any suggestions (other than buy a new player)?

I emailed Samsung and they gave me the procedure. I didn't realize you have to insert the flash drive after you turn on the player. I had inserted it prior to turning it on. Once I did that, it saw the new firmware file and updated the player to 2.22. I've already sent back the disc I had problems with so I'll never know if it was a firmware issue or a disc issue. Oh well, at least I'm at the current level.
