It was good, but I cannot see myself watching this more than one time. So not a purchase for me. Definitely better than The Reader though. Weird, because I bought Changeling and I can rewatch that multiple times. But it is Eastwood, so that is a given. Anyways, I will wait for Benjamin Button, I liked that more.

would rather see kate winslet's other movie little children on blu, much more going on in that one, rev road maybe I'd pick up if it was $10 in a deal

This is definitely Sam Mendes weakest film, I much preferred American Beauty, Road to Perdition and Jarhead. Still this film was pretty good.

I hated this movie and this was a big deception...i expected more from Sam Mendes (i love american beauty)...it was boring as hell (I even slept like 5 mins)
The script wasn't original, it was slow slow slow... he tried to make us cry but he just failed.
I can't recommend it...even for rental! It's really a shitty movie.
The return on big screen of the famous pair is just marketing stuff (their acting was nothing spectacular, even Winslet)
The only good moments were Michael Shannon's parts seriously (i would have give him the oscar of best actor in a supporting role just for having brought some light in that pretentious movie!)

Pass on that one! (u'll waste time if you decide to watch it

Agree with other posters, liked this movie but not to buy... rather see Little Children on blu, also!

You couldn't be more wrong. This was one of the finest films of the year. I will be adding it to my Blu-ray library for sure, I cannot recommend this movie enough. A stunning film from the first frame to the last.

Glad they stuck with the poster for art! Loved this movie. Kate did a much better job in this one compared to Reader.

Seriously, TO ME, it was heavy...it was as if the director was thinking : "Kate make a sad face...more please"...then "i think i'm gonna add some violins in the background to make the audience realize it is actually REALLY a sad scene".. He wanted to make a masterpiece, the typical oscars movie but he failed.
This movie was too much but in the end, it's my opinion against yours.

I love heavy dramas, and this was a damn fine example of how to do one properly. It's excellent filmmaking on all accounts. The acting, directing, and writing were grade A. I can't wait to have it in my Blu-ray library.

It was a good movie with some great performances, especially Leo and Michael Shannon who stole the show in his very brief screentime.

But it was also depressing as hell. Aside from Shannon's rant, there was nothing redeeming about the film. Mendes despite being a seemingly happily married man has made two movies(this and American Beauty) that appear to crap all over the concept of marriage and suburban life. Lighten up, man!

You shouldn't forget the importance of entertainment. It's entertaining as hell to watch stuff like this. That's what I love so much about film, I love escapism. I love watching things that don't happen to me in actual life, but I get a chance to witness it onscreen. Great stuff.

Fantastic film. Should've been nominated for several Academy Awards including Best Picture. This will be a first day purchase, without question.
