Default WB catalog coming soon, Forbidden Planet, Excalibur, Caddyshack, more

From Digital Bits:

Also today, here's something you classic catalog fans might be glad to hear. I checked in with the folks at Warner Home Video on Friday, and asked about those remaining catalog titles that were released on HD-DVD, but haven't yet found their way to Blu-ray - think Forbidden Planet, Grand Prix, Excalibur, Mutiny on the Bounty, Poseidon, Caddyshack, Troy (theatrical cut), The Dukes of Hazzard and there are probably a couple others whose names elude me at the moment. The studio confirmed that they ARE finally coming to Blu, adding that "patience will have its rewards." And yes, to answer your question in advance, they WILL have lossless audio. Good news indeed

Here's a list on WB HD-DVD titles not on BD yet:
  • Caddyshack
  • Charlie And The Chocolate Factory
  • The Dukes Of Hazzard
  • Excalibur
  • Forbidden Planet
  • Grand Prix
  • Mutiny On The Bounty
  • Poseidon
  • Smallville: Season 5
  • Willy Wonka And The Chocolate Factory
....and so says the Meeklo

Bleh I already have Troy, I don't particularly want the "theatrical" cut of it at all. Caddyshack is one I'd consider, since it's been recommended to me by so many.

I was thinking the same thing about Troy. I'd only take the theatrical if it included a seamless branch of the Director's cut and was an upgrade to the current encode (current encode only comes in at 25.8 GB for the film - Amazingly small for a 3h movie).

And Caddyshack is a fun movie. I'd personally prefer Fletch from Universal (which I think was planned but cancelled for HD-DVD), but Caddyshack ain't to bad either.

And Poseidon - is that the newer film with Emmy Rossum?

Fletch was indeed released on HD DVD toward the end. I have it. As for the titles in the OP. I'll pass, the only one I would be interested in is Caddyshack and I have the HD DVD already.

Forbidden Planet is one of the best looking sci-fi movies of the 50's. Image quality is worthy of Blu Ray upgrade.

I'll be waiting for Excalibur too.

Will pick up Caddyshack for sure. Might pickup Forbidden Planet and Grand Prix. Will wait to see the reviews on all of them first.

Warner has been promising its HD-DVD exclusives for a while now. I'll believe it when I see it.

I'm waiting for Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (it was supposed to be released this month, but I haven't seen anything yet). I will pick up Caddyshack for sure.

Agreed! I had it on HD DVD, and I will be replacing it IMMEDIATELY on Blu-ray.

BTW, the list of titles WB released on HD DVD, but have yet to offer on Blu-ray:
  • Caddyshack
  • Charlie And The Chocolate Factory
  • The Dukes Of Hazzard
  • Excalibur
  • Forbidden Planet
  • Grand Prix
  • Mutiny On The Bounty
  • Poseidon
  • Smallville: Season 5
  • Willy Wonka And The Chocolate Factory

I'll pick up "Forbidden Planet" immediately, and will eventually pick up "Smallville: Season Five" (I had it on HD DVD... heck, I still do as I haven't sold it yet), but will have to consider or find a deal on some of the others. Though "Grand Prix" is tempting since I haven't seen it before...

sounds like you have double dipped before? i don't think there is a dedicated thread, but is there a noticable difference on HD DVD and BD? I know it all depends on the title...but I can't imagine say Charlie and the Chocolate Factory will look any better on BD.

Correct. That's ten unreleased titles. Certainly not thirty.

I would like Willy Wonka with lossless audio... I still have the HDDVD which is a so-so release very grainy at parts and regular Dolby Digital 5.1 sound...
