http://www.channld.com/puremusic/

I forgot about that program but someone at avs brought it up a couple weeks ago again. I wouldn't have converted all those flac to alac had I remembered that. By the way using max is easy an isn't very time consuming at all. If he just rips a cd or so here and there than it won't be an issue. A cd would take less than a minute converting from flac to alac using max.
basically, I have to have either .flac or .wav files. the one issue I see with convertng .alac files to wav is that people say you don't get all the information back as it down converts to 16 bits from 24 bits(or something)

Im almost thinking that the way it looks I should get a 3 tb hd, a mac mini, a mac cd transport(optical drive) and a DAC, shit! this is getting to be a pain. Then I can play all the formats and not have to worry about anything.

HDD space is cheap....just keep all files as .WAV and don't bother with the conversion.

Do this and get that program I sent the link for. You will be able to play any music file format you want within the itunes format for ease of use (WAF ). Don't forget the wireless keyboard/mouse (i'd get the trackpad instead of a mouse and the attachment that puts trackpad/keyboard together).

Not when you are getting 5 of them and a nas enclosure (the most expensive cost....drobo has a $100 mail in rebate this month so I'm definitely getting one soon).

The difference saved between .WAV and .FLAC is anywhere from 25-35%, which is not huge.

I'm not talking about that difference. I'm talking about the cost of hd space. For steve it's cheap but for me it isn't. Then again I've got bigger projects.

heres the thing Sean, if I get yours and Marios itunes collections onto a 2 or 3 tb hard drive, and the Mac Mini automatically read external HDs from what I have found out, then I can get the optical drive(cd drive for CDs) and the rDAC. Then I can connect to the TV via HDMI, use wireless mouse and keyboard, keep it all behind the playpen so the boy can't get to it. I think that would be the best way to go. Besides I could go over to Marios and have him help me configure everything and transfer his library to help me get going.

now to convince the wife.

yea, i forgot that they didn't have it in HD audio and I was looking it for like 5 minutes. Oh well, the first 2 movies are good, the last one sucks. Kinda like the Mummy movies, the last one was lame, at least they had HD audio tho.

Im watching swingers, but on DVD... i don't like to double dip too often unless its a movie I really like or have to have the HD audio.
