Miracle for me. Greatest game Ever Played was good also, but do not know if it is a blu purchase for me. Sling Blade is good, but it will not be for the grain haters. That movie had a ton of it when it was in the theater. And I believe the dvd had a fair amount too.

Miracle is going to be added to my Blu-ray library immediately. Great film! I have yet to see The Greatest Game Ever Played, and I have always wanted to see it. I'm hoping it'll be worthy to add to my Blu-ray library. How good is it?

Ie., that Miracle was just TOO DARN GOOD (ie., intelligent and non-corny) to have come out of Touchstone, and may in fact have been one of ESPN's better made-for-cable movies that got upgraded for theatrical and absorbed by the parent studio. TGGEP, however, has raised no such suspicions. |

I'll definitely get Miracle. I love Kurt Russell's portrayal of Herb Brooks. The opening montage does a good job of putting you back in time to what it felt like back then. Young people may not understand the dynamic of USA vs. USSR sports back then, but this movie recreates that tension very well.
I haven't seen The Greatest Game Ever Played yet, but my parents loved it. |

Miracle was awesome. It also is cool because my grandpa had been eating lunch with Brooks right before he found out he was going to be the coach. SO I have heard stories about the process and everything.

The whole "Short history of the 70's" opening credits sums up the era perfectly (and some here aren't geezer enough to actually cringe during a period scene where we see characters in....gas lines! )As for Russell, his performance is so in tune with the rest of the movie, you just want to go out and punch Denzel Washington: Real coaches aren't nice-guy saints trying to teach symbolic screenwriter lessons about social tolerance, and don't win the game because they made the right sermon speech--They're edgy, easily-obsessed anger-management types so driven to the strategy of winning the championship game, they make their players pay the price for it, and only accidentally serve as father figures to those players who don't have one of their own. Russell's Brooks isn't a Nice Guy by any means, and that's just part of what gives the movie so much of its real-story smarts. |
