I know it's been discussed before, but here is an interesting study.

Nice and short, but to the point and I would have to agree. Before Blu-ray I was mainly a DVD renter. Movies didn't hold much appeal for ownership then. Now with the advancement of PQ/AQ on Blu-ray I find myself becoming a movie-lover as the experience of watching it on my home-theatre almost replicates the same feel as in a Moviehouse.

I completely disagree with the article when it comes to Blu-ray as I will not buy every Blu-ray that I want to see as if it has horrible PQ/AQ then it would be a waste of money to have upgraded from DVD.
Now how often does that happen? Not very often, but I rather not put myself in that situation. Also I can watch a lot more movies with less money.

It says you want to know if you like a movie enough to own before making the purchase. I'd say that being a renter and a buyer actually means you're smarter. I know it makes me feel smarter because I do both as well.
"There's a good wrestler, and a bad wrestler whom he confronts at the end. In between, the good wrestler has a love interest or a child he has to protect. Bill would usually make the good wrestler a backwoods type, or a convict. And sometimes, instead of a waif, he'd have the wrestler protecting an idiot manchild. The studio always hated that. Oh, some of the scripts were so... spirited!"

Seriously though.... I rent AND buy, because even if I know.... or at least have a strong feeling, that a movie is "bad" or not my style..... I STILL WANT TO SEE IT..... usually a 90 minute long "garbage" movie, has a redeeming quality or two
![]() I never watched "waterworld" so I finally rented it no more than a couple of months ago..... I just had to see what the "hate" surrounding this movie was.... (I didn't think it was that bad despite being overly cheesy) |

I think that if you don't rent AND buy you are less intelligent (or very rich) as you are not properly managing your money and limiting your selection of movies to only ones that you think you'll enjoy.

Whose idea was it to label that article "DVD Habits Reveal Your Character"? What a joke. I did find the article an interesting read, but -- and call me crazy if you must -- I'm fairly certain my DVD habits will not reveal my character; at least not to any extent where one could "peg" me a certain way.
This article is rife with random associations and tidbit facts that really don't amount to much substance if you ask me. There's very little data presented, too, to make any sort of argument to back up the title.

I don't rent. I buy what I already know I/my wife/children like, or I buy what looks like we might like (blind buy).
When someone sees a movie at the theater, they are basically blind buying. The cost of 2 (or more) tickets + any food/drinks can equal or exceed the cost of a Blu-Ray. I only see movies at the theater that I think I will like, so it's the same principle as blind-buying a BD. Most of the time, when I blind buy, I like it. The only difference is that I can watch the movie as many times as I wish, not just once. |
