Superman Returns to see remastered release with TrueHD and PCM

Now that the info has come out in another thread I can talk a little more freely about the Superman Returns reissue.

The new Pioneer player will come with two movies in it
1) Ghost Rider
2) Superman Returns

Both of these movies will have Dolby TrueHD tracks on them and PCM 5.1 uncompressed.

This new version of Superman Returns will only be availble with the Pioneer player until sometime after they have sold out, then will replace the current version on shelves for consumers later this year.

Batman Begins will also see Blu-ray release this year with TrueHD and PCM. I'm not sure when you'll see an announcement on it, but they're going to hold off as long as possible to try and get the IME on it. It will come out this year though, with or without IME.

I'm guessing it will be. But Ghost Rider, Superman Returns reissue, and Batman Begin will have both Dolby TruHD and PCM. Now we can really start seeing if there is a difference between the lossless codecs and pcm.

One quick question though. Does this mean there won't be any regular DD5.1 tracks on these releases? I don't have an HDMI receiver yet, so this is a concern for the time being.

TrueHD contains a legacy Dolby Digital track that all Blu-ray players will be able to decode if they have Dolby Digital capabilities, which all Blu-ray players have to have.

Yup - Blu-ray is now ahead in average from all those five sites in both PQ and SQ.

Pretty good stuff. In fact of the five sites only one still has HD DVD ahead in PQ and that's only by 0.06

But, of course you're fudging the numbers by including so many sites and so many titles, because everybody knows that, according to the A-man and Mr. rdjam that HD DVD and VC-1 are WAY ahead of Blu-ray in picture quality, right?

I agree, it's great to see Warner taking some initiative. I doubt they'll remaster the film, not even sure it would help, but hopefully they'll at least up the bitrate of the video to alleviate the posterization issues in places.

I don't know about it being up to par by summer. That would mean that IME would have to be good to go any day now. Here's to hoping, though.

Yeah I know!

I still can't get rdjam to explain which ones of the five sites he thinks shows HD DVD as being "far ahead" in PQ. He really likes to dodge facts.

Yeah they will definitely not be on par by summer.

Batman Begins will be released this year for sure, with or without IME.
Matrix will not be released without IME as they feel it's a crucial reason to want to rebuy the high def versions of these movies.

I would look for them to have caught up completely by the end of Q1/08

In the meantime the good news is that Warner is stepping up to play the lossless audio game, which they should as they advertise lossless audio's benefits on their HD microsite.

If they're only upgrading the audio, there's really no reason to re-release the HD DVD. It already has a TrueHD track and they couldn't handle adding PCM on top with only 30GBs.
