Kirsten Dunst 'needs to be assured of strong role in Spider-Man 4'

To follow up the previous news of Raimi working to get Dunst on board, there's this new bit to add:

ACTRESS Kirsten Dunst hasn't yet signed to appear in the next Spider-Man film - and a report now says she will only return to the franchise if her character has a central role in the story.

Spider-Man director Sam Raimi is soon to meet with Dunst to see if she wants to come back.

The 26-year-old hasn't yet committed to the film despite last year telling MTV 'I'm in' when asked about her return.

At a press conference for his upcoming horror flick Drag Me to Hell, Raimi told reporters: "I'm hoping that she is going to come aboard, and I've got a meeting coming up with her. I think she would like to. But I don't want to speak on behalf of her."

A report in the Daily Express apparently quoted a Hollywood source as saying: "It had been presumed that Kirsten would sign up for the fourth but she's still not agreed.

"She needs to be assured that the story is going to be a strong one, in terms of her character. The films clearly wouldnt be the same without her."

I've been unable to locate this report on the newspaper's website but it has been quoted all over the internet.

Spider-Man star Tobey Maguire was last year reported to have signed a huge $50million deal for the next two films in the series. The deal included a special arrangement for time off to see his baby daughter.

I remember pre-Spider-man 3 reading that one of the main reasons she signed on was that she wanted to sing. I hope they don't start making story concessions JUST to make stars happy. Go for the best story PERIOD.

I totally agree with her.Mary Jane Watson was always an important part of Peter Parker life and she need to be a central character in the film as well.

Personally I hate scenes with her in them they're always corny and she won't be missed by myself and probably many others. I see Spider man movies to see spider man not his girl friend...

Why can't she just sign already. This is SPIDER-MAN for God's sake. If she doesn't want to return for a 4th one that's fine too, it's not like they can't replace her.

I say sign her then kill her off in the first ten minutes of the film They can of course film much more so she thinks she has a bigger role

Well you can't get what you don't ask for. Spiderman 3 was a piece of crap and she did sing in that one. She was a nightclub singer, lol. She was just outshined by that Dork who took over the club.

everyone hates spiderman 3....I personally dont think its the best movie ever...But i dont think it sucks as bad as everyone says. Its actually watchable and it didnt ruin the trilogy for me

I think it looks awesome on blu-ray too!

the fight scenes with venom and sand man are also pretty cool.

i like spiderman 2 the best of them all tho. But i will put a personal guarantee on this...Spiderman 4 will not suck.

I'm not sure. I don't think I want her replaced, and I don't think I want her killed off, but if she's going to be a more major character she needs to step up her game, seriously. She's the Terrance Howard of Spiderman, she never should have gotten that role as far as I'm concerned. Now that she has it though I'd rather she sticks around, to the appropriate degree, than swap her out for a more Mary Jane-like actress.

I connected more with the blonde in Spiderman 3, Dunst was that weak.

What the hell is she thinking? She could be taken out of the last 3 movies and they would likely be better.

Reminds me of the dad in Back to The Future. He claimed he was a big shot and tried to strong arm his was into money, and they put big glasses on some other jerk and no one cared.

lol a lot of you Kirsten haters here, I personally don't mind her or didn't think part 3 was as bad as everyone seems to think. Not as good as the first 2 but still.

She wants a bigger part, why not throw the Wedding in the next one
