Sticking to titles listed, I chose "The Road Home." I have the Japanese Superbit DVD, which looks better than the U.S. disc, but the film would look fantastic on blu-ray (if they did a good transfer, of course!).
I'd like to see a decent edition of Wong Kar Wai's "2046" (the U.S. DVD actually looks the BEST), hopefully including all of the unique outtakes seen on the French special edition. "Dust In The Wind" is out, but some more Hou Hsiao-Hsien films would be wonderful (I can only imagine how great "Three Times" would look!). King Hu's "Dragon Inn" would be terrific (I don't think there's even an English-friendly anamorphic DVD out there) and I'd love to see some of Tsui Hark's '80's classics in blu-ray (I'd start with "Shanghai Blues," which - again, doesn't even have an English friendly DVD). From Korea, "My Sassy Girl" and "Windstruck" would be great, as would a decent looking blu-ray of "A Tale Of Two Sisters" (from the screen caps on DVDBeaver, the current blu-ray looks significantly WORSE than the Korean DVD!). "Attack The Gas Station" would be great (even the Korean DVD sucks), and maybe some Kim Ki-Duk ("3-Iron"). As for Japan... I'd love an English friendly blu-ray of Avalon that's actually affordable (unlike the current Japanese edition), "Hana and Alice" deserves the blu-ray treatment and, of course, the rest of the Miyazaki / Ghibli films. I'd also like to see the "lost" Nakashima film "Paco And The Magical Book" on an English-friendly blu-ray (to my knowledge, no decent English-subbed version has appeared even on DVD). |
