People have them in other countries and I don't think they are promo copies. Can we not assume the UK and US actual picture quality might be the same? See this thread talking about a problem with Part VI: http://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=96918

You think those pics look awesome? Seriously? I was excited to get these too until I saw those screen caps. Looks like a DNR nightmare. Definitely waiting for a proper review now but more than likely I won't buy anyway after seeing those.

I'm thinking i will Cancel my order and wait for a better set.
I have never seen star trek. I just bought the Season 1 set today and i'm going to be watching the show for the first time later on today. I don't believe I will become a trekkie, so i figured watching these movies it wouldn't matter if I saw the Directors cut or not still if the directors cuts are indeed the ones to watch then parhaps i'm just best waiting around. Problem is i don't think I will see this set for less then 80 dollars until the next set comes out. But who knows maybe i won't even like Star Trek... |

New releases by Paramount usually look quite good.
However, too many of their catalog titles seem to stem from out-of-date masters (used for DVD years ago) which contain far too much DNR and EE. It seems they were too cheap to create new masters. I will pass on these. |

It's safe to assume that new masters were struck for TMP and TUC, since they are the original theatrical versions and have never seen the light of DVD let alone BD. I'm waiting for proper reviews to come in before writing this set off.

Sorry, but you're mistaken. The first DVD was the same home video version released in 1992 to VHS and Laserdisc. It contained Rene Aubergonois' bit about cleaning the Klingons' chronometers as well as the Scooby-Doo ending as well as a few other bits of extra footage. It was the only version ever released to home video until the Director's Edition 2 Disc, where Nicholas Meyer added some different close ups McCoy during the Spock/Valeris mind-meld in addition to the previous extra footage. The aspect ratio was different from the theatrical version as well, 2.11:1 or something like that. The BD will be the first time the original theatrical version of VI has ever been released to home video.
