Safari 5.0 has been out for a bit, but I suppose you could still call it new-ish. There was an update to it very recently, though. It's now 5.0.1 if I'm not mistaken.

I was waiting for my BB to die off before I upgrade to anything else and its almost here... trouble starting up and more. It is 3y/o!

So what do you guys think.... just grab a 3GS before they run out or wait til all the bugs on the 4g get fixxed up and upgrade to that?

The iPhone 4 doesn't have any "bugs" per se. The main issue is that the antenna can lose some effectiveness if you hold the phone a certain way. Apple is giving away cases which eliminate or greatly reduce this problem.

I've had my iPhone 4 for a couple of weeks now. Before this I had the 3GS and original iPhone. The 4 is my favorite--look, feel, functionality--but I had no complaints about either of my other iPhones. That said, I can't whole-heartedly recommend a phone that's a year old because eventually older models stop receiving update support. If it's a question between a $99 3GS and a $99 4 and you can afford the difference, then I'd have to recommend the newer model. If you can't afford the extra $100 you're not missing out on a great deal. Functionally speaking, they're essentially the same phone.

Hey Pete,

I was reading comments left by users on Global News this morning and there seems to be other issues with the
4G. And from the looks of it, seems to be a few of them. Thats why I was debating the new one.

The antenna issue is real. Those other "issues" mentioned in the article and in the comments really aren't bugs at all.

No Flash support - This is a legitimate complaint, but it's not new and it's not a bug. No Apple iPhone has ever supported Flash. I browse the internet frequently with my iPhone. The no Flash thing pops up occasionally, but it's not a major issue for me. YMMV

Another problem with the new iPhone 4G, and this may have been totally unintended, is that it calls itself a fourth generation iPhone. Which it is, but the uninitiated consumer is likely to assume that the phone is capable of using 4th generation 4G wireless internet standards, when if fact its still plane-jane 3G.
I have a problem with this part of the article. First, Apple may say the iPhone 4 is a 4th generation iPhone--because it's the 4th iPhone to come out--but it has never implied it works with 4G networks. You have to attribute any misunderstanding of this to user error. Second, the author refers to the iPhone 4 as the iPhone 4G throughout the article, indicating that either he's confused or he's trying to confuse things. Granted, it was published over a month ago, but people weren't calling it the iPhone "4G" even then.

Re WiFi: I have WiFi at home and use it with my phone whenever possible in public--you can search for WiFi with the iPhone--and have not experienced any issues.

Yeah whoever wrote that article is an idiot, Apple has never called it the 4G. People just assumed.

Yeah, man. Agreed. Definitely not a "bug," but of course I'd say if we had support for that, we'd definitely be a fan of it. That is one of the few things with the iPhone where I look at it and go "really, Apple?" Sort of like no Blu-ray drives in even their highest-end Macs, but that's a subject for a different time and place.

I'd like Flash too, but it's not a deal-breaker. Jobs hates on it for the same reason he hates on Blu-ray--it's not an Apple product so he can't make any money off it. Why include a Blu-ray player (esp. with those gorgeous Apple monitors) when people clearly prefer to pay for media access through the iTunes movie store, right Steve?

When Apple first began their advertising campaign on the iPhone 4 they did put it out there as the iPhone 4G. I do remember this and it excited me to think Apple had tapped the 4G market, but they quickly retracted that advertisement and began the iPhone 4 campaign.

I can understand the misinterpretations, but that article is nothing but rhetoric.

Ha! Yeah, for real. Sometime I love Apple, and sometimes I hate them.

In regards to Flash, I've got it on my Nexus One and honestly, it's more trouble than it's worth most of the time. The thing it does best is allow for more pop ups that are, in some cases, impossible to get rid of.

While everybody's playing with their fancy iPhone 4's, I FINALLY found a good deal on a 3GS . . . 32GB, lightly used, a hundred bucks. Hopefully they release the jailbreak for the new bootrom soon, it's unfortunately useless to me unless it's unlocked. Still putting good vibes out there for the Q3 release of the iPhone 4 on T-Mobile

I've loved all 3 of my iPhones. If Blu-ray drives were an option I would probably own an iMac and/or a MacBook Pro. A pilot buddy of mine would too.

Wow, I love the new web-based jailbreak. Very quick and easy, and worked like a charm. After not having an iPhone for six months, I'm very glad to have one again. The comparable Android apps I was using just lack so much polish compared to the iPhone versions, not to mention the keyboard is so much easier to use. I'll definitely be keeping my Nexus One around, but for now I'm back to being stuck on the iPhone. I'm especially enjoying the folders feature they added with iOS4. Much easier organization.

I'm not going to lie: I kind of miss the jailbreak days. I played with that quite a bit when I had the first generation phone, and for the first few months of ownership. When that first firmware revision came out, though, and I realized that I'd have to update my jailbreak every time, I just kind of decided against continuing to do it. I love how a jailbroken phone just opens up so much stuff, though. I made an entire theme with my own icons and everything. I even changed the slider icon for when you come out of sleep/charge. It was pretty crazy.

Ah, the good ol' days!

I agree. There are things my phone won't do, after a few days of being on. Power cycle has cured any problems i've encountered thus far. Mine is usually the keypad will stop making the key sounds.
