![]() I've never understood the apathy/dislike towards Star Trek III. I thought the movie was brilliant and had excellent Klingon and crew moments.

Problem with Star Trek near the end of TNG was that it became oversaturated and commercialism took over imo. With too many shows following the same template and not enough new ideas Enterprise as a show was doomed.
It took many years after TOS was cancelled in 1969 for us to get Star Trek on the big screen, and then all the movies and a spin-off called TNG. IMO, let JJ do a few movies and let the end result be a TV series SET IN THE FUTURE! A new crew for Enterprise. I'd like Bad Robot to handle productions preferably.

[Show spoiler] . This might have something to do with the fact, that after the Borg used time travel to mess with the time line in First Contact all events in the movies thereafter have been in their own alternate time line due to the interference.

In no way can this film be called a reboot. It is just one film in a long line of films, TV shows, radio, conventions, toys, etc etc etc. ST is to large to be destroyed, even by the Dominion. Just not sure whether to put it before ST TMP or after Nemesis when it is out. I will admit that JJ has come up with a great way to find a new audience without pissing of to many Trekkies. Let the man come up with his own idea for a sequel, no Borg please. No need to rehash old or new Trek. This universe is so large that reintroducing ideas done before (Kahn) would not only spoil the old show and films, but show a limited imagination on the writers part. I want new stories, villains, but most of all, a new film for next year and every year (never happen).

Nevertheless, when this movie was announced and I was hyped for it he would find every little negative thing about it! So much so, he even said isn't it time Star Trek should die with diginity! I was shocked. Anyway, he's very anti-this film but he STILL wants to see it with me because it will have good special effects even though it won't be a Star Trek film etc. It seems now, that I'm the bigger Trek fan lol I just find some 'hardcore trekkies' if that's the right term, a bit disappointing. I can appreciate a difference of opinion or not liking the movie, but taking an immediate anti-stance? Let's not forget, in 1979 when Star Trek was all but dead on its feet after The Motion Picture it was left to one man, Nicholas Meyer to do Wrath of Khan which then spawned 10 films, TNG tv series and subsequent spin-offs from its success. Meyer knew nothing about Star Trek coming on board...just like JJ, but he re-imagined the concept and kept it alive for new fans. With this new Trek....the sequel has endless possibilities, if we allow ourselves to be free and go with it.

I actually don't have a problem with
[Show spoiler] It doesn't have to be a focus but it would definitely be something different...different in a way that was a major no no in the 60's. I remember one of the tv episodes where the main crew were captives on a planet where their actions were being telepathically controlled and [Show spoiler] I really don't know why author of the article pinpointed this particular thing to squash and don't know if he has a problem with [Show spoiler] Anyways, just my two cents. I'm pumped for the sequel because it looks like the movie series is back!

That was my assumption when he was shown in it near the end of the movie.
