Kirk/Spock and Borg = Doom

Kirk/Spock and Klingons = Greatness.

Lets not muddy the whole thing...

However, I for one would like to see them as the villains once more.
Klingons are great for story. Undiscovered Country is one of my favs.

Also, Klingons would be VERY interesting considering this timeline hasn't had Kirks son killed by them.

I love that film too, Meyer is a great director. I still reside in the Wrath of Khan as the best film however, but UC comes close.

I've never understood the apathy/dislike towards Star Trek III. I thought the movie was brilliant and had excellent Klingon and crew moments.

Problem with Star Trek near the end of TNG was that it became oversaturated and commercialism took over imo. With too many shows following the same template and not enough new ideas Enterprise as a show was doomed.

It took many years after TOS was cancelled in 1969 for us to get Star Trek on the big screen, and then all the movies and a spin-off called TNG.

IMO, let JJ do a few movies and let the end result be a TV series SET IN THE FUTURE! A new crew for Enterprise. I'd like Bad Robot to handle productions preferably.

The Borg is pretty much out of the equation, unless the want the hardcore Trekkies to commit mass hara-kiri in front of the Paramount studios. Picard's crew had the first recorded Federation contact with the Borg.

Then the Enterprise would crash land on a weird planet and Richard Alpert will be there.

Think of the possibilities! Actually, I don't watch the show but I think a reference to Star Trek was once made and John Locke called Captain Kirk 'a pi$$ poor Captain' because of all the red-shirts that died under his command. Time for some payback I say.

Lmao, yes. I don't watch Enterprise (I'm tentatively starting) but I believe there is a controversial episode where
[Show spoiler]the borg were first encountered by Captain Archer's crew
. This might have something to do with the fact, that after the Borg used time travel to mess with the time line in First Contact all events in the movies thereafter have been in their own alternate time line due to the interference.

Personally, I think the Borg will be great as they can always "work their way" around the history time line. However, it will be VERY controversial.

I like to think of it as tree roots. Each time someone travels back in time to alter the way things are the root splits and a new relaity is created.

In no way can this film be called a reboot. It is just one film in a long line of films, TV shows, radio, conventions, toys, etc etc etc. ST is to large to be destroyed, even by the Dominion. Just not sure whether to put it before ST TMP or after Nemesis when it is out. I will admit that JJ has come up with a great way to find a new audience without pissing of to many Trekkies. Let the man come up with his own idea for a sequel, no Borg please. No need to rehash old or new Trek. This universe is so large that reintroducing ideas done before (Kahn) would not only spoil the old show and films, but show a limited imagination on the writers part. I want new stories, villains, but most of all, a new film for next year and every year (never happen).

One question:

[Show spoiler]Is Pike confined to a wheelchair now or is it just because he was hurt badly?

Lol, my friend who I've known for about 10yrs since we were at school, has been a Star Trek fan way longer than me. In a bigger way. He's never been a fan of TOS though, finding it camp etc and dislikes Kirk. We had a constant running argument for years about the latter lol, but at heart he's a TNG child which is fine.

Nevertheless, when this movie was announced and I was hyped for it he would find every little negative thing about it! So much so, he even said isn't it time Star Trek should die with diginity! I was shocked. Anyway, he's very anti-this film but he STILL wants to see it with me because it will have good special effects even though it won't be a Star Trek film etc. It seems now, that I'm the bigger Trek fan lol

I just find some 'hardcore trekkies' if that's the right term, a bit disappointing. I can appreciate a difference of opinion or not liking the movie, but taking an immediate anti-stance?

Let's not forget, in 1979 when Star Trek was all but dead on its feet after The Motion Picture it was left to one man, Nicholas Meyer to do Wrath of Khan which then spawned 10 films, TNG tv series and subsequent spin-offs from its success. Meyer knew nothing about Star Trek coming on board...just like JJ, but he re-imagined the concept and kept it alive for new fans.

With this new Trek....the sequel has endless possibilities, if we allow ourselves to be free and go with it.

I actually don't have a problem with
[Show spoiler] a Spock and Uhura relationship.
It doesn't have to be a focus but it would definitely be something different...different in a way that was a major no no in the 60's. I remember one of the tv episodes where the main crew were captives on a planet where their actions were being telepathically controlled and
[Show spoiler] Uhura and either Captain Kirk or Spock were being forced to kiss but were stopped just short of the actual act.
I really don't know why author of the article pinpointed this particular thing to squash and don't know if he has a problem with
[Show spoiler] Spock in any relationship or just this one. I'm sure any Trek fan of the original tv series remembers that Nurse Chapple had a thing for Spock.
Anyways, just my two cents. I'm pumped for the sequel because it looks like the movie series is back!

That was my assumption when he was shown in it near the end of the movie.
