Deadline reports that Paramount has confirmed the title.

Sounds a bit silly to me. Just doesn't quite work in that context, it feels forced. Still, I have huge, high hopes for the film itself, can't wait for it.

Perhaps it should've remained "Untitled Star Trek sequel" In all seriousness, if they can't come up with a good subtitle, just stick with numbering, and to distinguish it from The Wrath of Khan, don't use the Roman numeral, just 2.

Its a cumbersome title and sounds more like a poster tagline than a title.

Exactly. I don't think anyone would have cared that there was already a Star Trek II if this was Star Trek 2. Everyone is aware it's a reboot, no-one would have cared.

Sums it up perfectly.

I don't get why there was a big fuss about the title for all this time when it turned out to be... this.

It may be a little silly, but they could have called it "Star Trek II: The Search for More Spock" and I still would see this in the theater opening weekend.

Wow. What a mess of a title. Why not Star Trek II: The Botany Bay. Not great, but better than what we're getting.

Hell, they could have used the original episode title even. Star Trek II: Space Seed. Or Star Trek II: The Eugenics Wars.
Bat-Mite: "Batman's rich history allows him to be interpreted in a multitude of ways. To be sure, this is a lighter incarnation, but is certainly no less valid and true to the character's roots then the tortured avenger, crying out for mommy and daddy."

Batman: The Brave & The Bold - Legend of the Dark Mite.

I like these if it really is a Khan story (I hope it's not). Or maybe Star Trek: Into JJ's Mystery Box

If the movie is as entertaining as the first or, better still, more Trek-like then for me the title won't matter. Much.

Pretty much has already been confirmed to be about Khan. Which I think is both good and a mistake.

Since it's only going to ensure comparisons to not only the original episode but also the original Star Trek II.

I think they should have at least saved Khan for a different film. Since both film series having the second one about Khan is hinky.

Lol, so true!

That is considered one of the few scientific flaws of 2001 (ignoring the third act, and the year it's set it), the fact that you can see what's going on!

I guess I'm just gonna have to ask my trusted source what they've heard about the title but they didn't know about the title at the time and were caught off guard.

All I'm gonna say...

It hasn't been confirmed to be Khan a all. They keep making a point to say it isn't, but everyone keeps insisting it is. I highly doubt they're using Kahn again. They aren't trying to remake the second movie, so using Kahn doesn't make sense. Right now anyway. Later down the road? Maybe. But for now, I really believe everyone involved who is saying it isn't Kahn.

Khan is still a mystery but I'm definitely certain that Alice Eve is Carol Marcus.

I like what Pine said about the flick.

Said the circumstance is a lot worse compared to the first one. Not sure how that is possible due to Earth being destroyed... however I will hope he is right.

Can this movie break the Star Trek curse or start a new trend of even movies being poor compared to Odd.

I will be watching it no matter what... I hope I enjoy it as much as the first.

please update the main thread to reflect this as it is now confirmed

Quote:
The title for director J.J. Abrams' Star Trek 2 has reportedly been revealed.

ComingSoon says they've been tipped that the 3D sequel will be titled Star Trek Into Darkness: "Although we have not yet been able to officially confirm said title, the domain names http://www.startrekintodarkness.com and http://www.startrekintodarknessmovie were both registered yesterday through Markmonitor, an anonymous domain registry service that just so happens to have been utilized by Paramount Pictures for recent URLs like their official G.I. Joe: Retaliation site."

UPDATED: TrekMovie says it's now confirmed via multiple sources that the title is indeed Star Trek Into Darkness: "According to sources, the creative team are still working on how they will officially roll out this new title. The first acknowledgement will likely be made with some kind of visual treatment, either a type treatment for the title or possibly even a teaser poster or image. Indications are that this official roll out should be coming soon."
