Default Legend (1985)

Now that we have The Neverending Story coming out soon, we've already got The Dark Crystal and Labrynth out, this seems to be the next 80's fantasy movie that needs to come out?

Agreed?

Anyone heard anything?

Preferrably with the Jerry Goldsmith soundtrack on the U.S. edition, instead of Tangerine Dreams

apparently HDNEt Movies wanted to present the director's cut, but Universal at the time only had the US cut in hidef for them. This title has been on the backburner for a while since awhile back Universal was going to release this on bluray and HD-DVD (when Universal was into the dual release phase of high-def media)

I've been thinking alot about this one lately and am really wanting this to be announced sometime soon. I had heard that the theatrical cut has aired in hi-def as Dubstar mentioned, but hopefully when this does get announced it carries over both versions and all the special features from the ultimate edition dvd.

too bad, Universal couldn't include say the European cut to compare to the US and Director's Cut version, I have seen it and while not as complete as the DC, it's even, again superior to the US cut - with Goldsmith's music score and different footage that didn't wind up in the DC (minor shots here and there) even the TV cut of the film was a weird hybrid version that had a scene exclusive to it where Jack and company bump into creatures in the dungeon.

It would be cool if they could include all THREE versions of the film and make an all ecompassing ultimate collector's edition a la Blade Runner. However, I beleive this issues boils down to Fox or someone else having the rights to the European cut. Or maybe I'm misremembering, so correct me if I'm wrong. I have not seen the European cut, but would certainly love to!

yes, Fox owns the international rights to the film - France saw a release in August '85 (the US release was in April of '86). As for one minor shot that was in the European version that is in neither the US or DC cut that I always liked was when Lily dances with the black dress and it wraps itself around her like a giant butterfly, as it engulfs Lily a blue light comes between them - it's very etheral and magical, in the US/DC version, the two come together and immediately become one.

I saw Legend when it was on HDNET Movies. It was the U.S. cut unfortuantely but it still did look noticeably better than my dvd. I prefer the Goldsmith score too, so I'm sure when it is finally released on blu it will include that for sure. It deserves a nice multidisc set as miller_time22 stated, like Bladerunner. The cinematography is just so gorgeous and completes the world, surrounding it in this feathery and glittery quality befitting the fable that it is. Hope it also comes in a cool package or slipcase when finally released on blu!
