They must have an original film strip they can transfer to BD somewhere. Then go in and clean it up. C'mon, the DVD isn't that bad. I still have the VHS in the clam shell case and that was acceptable.
They do have it, they made a new 70mm print about 5 years ago in fact

The problem is that you can only polish it so much. While the DVD looked great for Tron, we've all seen the *****ing about even Robocop

I would buy this title today if it came out. This was a huge movie for me growing up. I thought the special edition looked good going through my PS3 but the contrast did scream HELP a few times. The moment this is official I will pre-order.

I was wondering about that---i haven't watched the 20th Anniversary edition, but I assumed there had to be a significant upgrade over the single-disc DVD release besides just providing a better encode (4.25 GB for a 96 minute movie? eek).

Well, we get what we get sometimes. The movie is about 25 years old now. Look what they did for "A Christmas Story" which is about 20 years old. The DVD version is a muddy piece of shinola on a shingle. The BD is beautiful. I have all the faith in the world Disney can give us a similar experience with TRON.

Let's not nit pick at the minor stuff. Once we see Flynn get digitized and the graphics of his data stream flying through cyber space in high def, all will be forgiven.

Count me in. Very ground breaking for the time and I have always secretly loved Cindy Morgan.

The 2 movies are completely different animals

A Christmas story had zero effects shots

Tron was shot on 65mm film so the end product wouldn't look horriffic on 35, and every one of those shots made at least half a dozen trips through the optical printer. The end result is blurry, the roto isn't always perfect

I'm trying to emphasize that a huge amount of work needs to go into it to look decent in HD .They'll spend that money on an animated classic, they won't spend it on a movie that does well as a catalog title, but it's not an evergreen whatsoever.

I ordered TRON on VHS at a video store before I even bought my VHS player in 1986. It was my first VHS. I saw it in the theater in 1982 and had not seen it for 4 years at this point. It still had a tremendous impact on me.

One day in 2002 my brother borrowed 20 bucks from me. Instead of paying me back, he picked up the 20th Anniversay edition of TRON to repay me. It was thoughtful, but I didn't even own a DVD player yet. So it was my first DVD. Monster House was my first BD, but go figure.

Over the years I have probably seen TRON a dozen times and no part of it is not familiar to me anymore. But I am DYING to see this on blu-ray.

Who else wants it?
I do! I remember seeing it in theaters when it came out. And then going to the arcade and playing the Tron video game.

And even though "Tron 2.0" didn't become the PS2 hit they thought it would, a Tron segment merited inclusion on "Kingdom Hearts II".

(I remember when Disney's VMK online game tried a Tron-themed month, and we had to educate an entire unacquainted Simpsons-line raised generation on just how too-cool-before-its-time the movie really was...
As "CGI", quote-fingers, goes, it may not be Final Fantasy, but dang, it would look good on Disney Blu--You have only to give the restored 20th Anniversary SD a spin and convince yourself.)

Loved the movie, definitely a classic, they did a good job with their last DVD remake edition of it, so I think it will turn out good, and hopefully come out next year.

Thumbs up Tron Blu-ray

You know.. it may be a cheesy movie but I would love to see Tron on blu ray... I would want it to go through the same extensive restoration that Star Wars did a few years ago.. Who is with me on this one?

I'd like it on blu-ray especially since I think I only have it on VHS currently.

Some kind of new Tron movie scheduled for 2010

You'd see it then, or in 2012 for the 30th anniversary
