Default Star Trek TNG BD?

At the local rumour mill today as i was buying some BD, I overheard some guys talking about a july release of the entire TNG series....anyone else heard this...to me, as a Trek fanatic...this is a must have......I also picked up kung fu hustle, pirates of the carribean (all 3) devils rejects and hitman...brings my BD total to 14.... can't wait to break the 100 mark

I think (just my humble opinion) that rumor spreading is just that, another freakin rumor! If there is one thing I've learned since I started visiting this forum is that don't believe anything until it's in print. Besides, people who say stuff like that might just be trying to make themselves look important when they really aren't.

I thought blu-ray.com WAS the rumor mill? We love our rumors and speculation here, but STNG is not planned at all at this time as far as the public knows.

Believe it or not I have come to realize that blu-ray.com actually is the best place to come for the facts. Rumors are fine but taken at entertainment value only.

This really is true and one of the best sites ever to come to for insider information and links that support facts.

There is 100% no truth to TNG being put on BD, or even being retransferred right now. We are, at the very minimum, 2 years away from any such release, best case scenario, assuming it's greenlit in the first place

Two words for ya...

NOT F*CKING LIKELY!

Paramount hasn't even announced any titles for any upcoming releases and it's already April.

Think you need to recount those words.

Thank you. That was my point. I'm surprised somebody actually caught on to that!
(hey, how did that smilie get in here?)...

One of those was technically just a metaphorical representation of a word.

What would be the point in this? A reduction in the number of discs to hold the series? Because it wasn't edited in HD was it? That would mean messing with the original film stock, re-editing, recreated SFX and so on...I would have thought that would all be a bit cost prohibitive and uneconomical for a Blu release (especially when a proportion of the limited fan base will refuse to double dip given how much they have paid for the DVD versions)

Default Star Trek - The Next Generation - Blu-ray Release ?

I have asked before and I get several different answers. I want to know if TNG (the television series) is going to be coming to blu-ray? Any ideas on date? One, two, or more years down the road? Never? I ask because I want to pickup the TNG series on DVD if the blu version is not slated for release any time in the near future. I ask and hesitate because they are releasing the original series on blu so .. maybe TNG later? I don't know.

Please let me know what you all think. Should I just buy the dvd's and be done with it or wait? Thanks all for the input!

I think you should've put this in the Wish List forum, doubt this will be coming to blu-ray anytime soon anyhow. Lots of work to be done to transfer it, not to mention millions of dollars in cost.

Next Gen is a must for me and I hope it will arrive after TOS is released. Probably looking at 2-3 years.

I really hate you for naming this all fancy-like so I though it was coming out.......

But anyways, last I read it was going to be quite some time if they even get released at all. Deep Space Nine and TNG got shot on video rather than film and that was supposed to make the transfer much more difficult.

And we all know how lazy paramount is with getting stuff out in a timely manner.

EDIT: Might as well pick up the complete series on dvd for now. I got all 7 seasons for 175 shipped on ebay, there's bound to be deals had. And then you can just sell em when season 1 gets a release date. There's always format laggers, and trekkies will buy them on all formats.

Didn't mean to name it like it was coming out. Lol.

So it is more like 2-3 years IF it even comes out? Hmm. I think a DVD purchase is in order. Really wish everything was in blu that way I wouldn't have to buy dvd's. Then again, not sure I want to see some of the FX in high def when they are that old.

star trek the original series is incredible on blu-ray and the effects don't look terrible at all.

I imagine (hope ) that Enterprise will be out on BD first after the TOSs are released. Enterprise was shot HD. To get TNG onto BD would require a lot of work.

I don't know whether it is true, but I recall someone saying quite a while ago that the first 2 series of TNG were shot on SD equipment. It was only later that they shot on film and edited on SD. If that is the case, then the first 2 series will be lost to BD unless the effects were remastered and the live action was up-scaled by some fancy process.
