I'm sorry if you looked into this. It was a false alarm. After a little troubleshooting which involved playing "The Cider House Rules "Blu-ray on a friends player, I realized that the signal going to our non-High Def receiver was incorrect. I changed the settings on the Blu-ray player and now everything sounds better. It's my fault. I apologize. I've never had a disc drop the sound out like that before, but I'm glad it did so that we could get our settings right.

Nope, I didn't encounter any of that. My hunch is you need a firmware upgrade to your player.

Hello Mr. Kauffman. I have enjoyed reading your reviews. "The Cider House Rules" copy I have on Blu-ray has a major issue with the audio. The dialogue cuts out completely three minutes into the film and I don't know if it ever fixes itself. When Michael Caine's character (Dr. Larch) is supposed to be saying "Good night you Princes of Maine..." I couldn't hear him or the dialogue from the other actors either. You can hear music and some sound effects, though. It becomes very apparent that something is wrong as the sound seems to drop off completely when Homer (Tobey Maguire) walks in on Dr. Larch using ether and their lips are moving but you can not hear what they are saying. When I switched over to the Director's commentary I could hear all the parts of the audio that was missing (or buried) in those early scenes. Anyway, I returned my defective copy and was allowed me to get a second copy, but this one also has the same issues. Your copy did not have any of those issues?
